If Pearson or MON are willing to manage Leicester next year, would you sack Ranieri? To those Pearson & MoN luvvies just ask yourself what did they actually achieve with Leicester City, certainly not the Premiership title. And Claudio has publicly stated he wants to retire here so let's end the nonsense and agree CLAUDIO RANIERI IS the best manager this Club has ever had.

Old Fox Posted 3 May 2016 Posted 3 May 2016 MON for me 100% Grey and Old and I marvelled at teams through the 70's, 80's and 90's......but whilst MON will always be very very special their is no comparison to the achievement that Claudio has just delivered. He has achieved the greatest achievement in the club's 132 year history.....read that again 132 year history....yes the foundations had been laid but boy has he managed it with integrity, passion, huge man-management skills but also he is a tactical genius.... He is and rightly is the NO.1 Manager in LCFC History.........................................IMO

MON for me due to the connotations of his legacy and I suspect we are all choosing based on that.
inckley fox Posted 3 May 2016 Posted 3 May 2016 It's Ranieri now. The real debate is whether the second best is O'Neill, Pearson, possibly Gillies. I'd always have said O'Neill, but it's hard to overlook a guy who takes you up two divisions, keeps you up, and installs a squad which pulls off what we've just pulled off the following season. But Ranieri has just pulled off the most incredible achievement in the history of the game, and certainly in the history of our club. There's often been a discussion about what our best ever season was - was it the nearly men of 1928/29 and 1962/63 or the side that finished 8th and won stuff in a more elitist era in 1999/00? It's humbling when you look at the gap between our best ever season and our second best.

Donut Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 Best this, best that - top trumps thinking! 'Given the resources' and 'given the circumstances' have to be the qualifiers for such an aimless question. For some reason it's necessary for some to need to state "the king is dead, long live the king" as if there has to be some definitive manager who everybody bows to, above all others. It's a pub question - vastly amusing but impossible to answer. It's been a loaded question dropped by those who've come in and have wanted to enhance their own feelings of being part of the 'best ever' City team. Well - it is the best ever team I've watched - put together by the structure created with Nigel Pearson at its centre and added to by the structure, centred around Ranieri, that took over from Pearson when he was obliged to go. The team is a product of multiple influences - steered faultlessly by Ranieri - with the nucleus formed earlier and driven by Pearson. Pearson propelled the team from the '3rd' and into the Premier, grabbed the team when it was failing and managed to shake it into the shape it assumed when it avoided relegation so wonderfully. That run of wins created a core of cohesiveness and determination which has personified the following success, unmatched in the Club's history. That 'core' team now might fall apart now - given the attractions of 'big' team football. Ranieri could prove to be the 'best' manager if he succeeds in continuing to keep City challenging to the later stages of the competitions the club is involved in...if and when the player(s) who have been pivotal this season decide to follow their fortunes elsewhere. The management team has abundant resources to attempt that. To continue to preserve the team's solidarity and cohesiveness while improving its level of potential will require a great leader. If Ranieri can do that for the next two or three seasons then maybe it will be time to bring up the question again. If he/they can win the FA Cup then we'll have the full complement of domestic silverware. If he can win the European Cup then he/they can claim to be the collossus of contemporary football. Then he might be approaching the level of achievement of Brian Clough/Peter Taylor. He certainly will have top-trumped the likes of Ron Saunders, Fergie, Busby, Shankly/Paisley and the other handful of managers to win a European trophy - given the resources available. Martin O'Neill still has to be my choice - given what he did with the resources he had. Long winded twaddle. Ranieri is the best ever. No argument is possible. End of.
