TeamRocket Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 Hiya all i have Toyota Corolla 1.6 and it needs new brake pads and disc (i think well i was told the squeaking will go away) went to local garage and he quoted me £110 for the front two? That for both pads and disc Is that normal? Sorry i dont know much about cars hence the asking am from Bolton and am planning to come Leicester next week but i dont wanna go with squeaking brakes. Just in case it goes and F**** The 110 is also the labour price include
DeclanMC Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 Seems reasonable, considering the parts themselves are probably costing the garage £80/90. Others might have a better idea for your exact model though.

The Blur Posted 9 May 2016 Posted 9 May 2016 I got quoted £140 recently but I live in London so that sounds about right. I recently had my MOT and got advised my brake pads/discs may need replacing in immediate future (it was on an amber alert) but I do not use my car much so should I just leave it or look into replacing it now especially that two learner drivers are on my insurance now?

Which would make fitting £50. Though they're a brand I've never heard of...

Just went to a different place and now that guy is saying my disc are in good nick and all i need is just new pads ahhh think am losing it why didnt I learn motor machine in college be easier get parts and do em myself
Bettsj2 Posted 10 May 2016 Posted 10 May 2016 Whilst they are rip off merchants for everything else, Hallfords breaks for life is a really good deal. Probably cost you £200 rather than £110 but you dont pay ever again even if you change your car.

Someone told me that even tho you dont have to oay for pads again but every time you need new pads you have to get disc even though you dont need em (plus Halford near me aint that good ) butbi did look in to that also kwik fit but to many bad reviews on them
TeamRocket Posted 10 May 2016 Author Posted 10 May 2016 Wow sorted ny brakes pads now went to this place next to work i never new there was a place behind my place of work but got it done for £50 thats new pads and labour price happy with that as they told me i didnt need disc and showed me what a warn disc looks like and did it under an hour so happy over all with that if anyone lives in the North west area and whats a good place i would recommend them
JadeFalcon Posted 10 May 2016 Posted 10 May 2016 squeaking brakes is usually just usually insufficient copper grease on the back of the pads... not new discs and pads edit: need to do mine put 4 new discs n pads on my mondeo last year but gotten squeaky in past couple of weeks
Len Finsbury Posted 10 May 2016 Posted 10 May 2016 Squealing brakes are actually the dust molecules vibrating under braking. I've lost count of the amount of times I've removed pads, cleaned everything up, sawn a groove down the centre of the pad to allow the dust to escape and refit them.

Could be rust if the car has been standing in the rain for a few days, your brake pads are low or your discs are worn creating a lip and causing poor contact between the pads and disc.
