Over the course of the season, with the exception of eight games around the end of the 2015 and start of 2016, FoxesTalk visitors have been able to cast votes after each Leicester City fixture. I will post a summary of these over the next few days and they will be in three parts.

Fuchs is incredibly consistent. Doesn't win MOTM awards but doesn't dip below a certain standard.

Because he's had some games were he was shocking. He will be brilliant like against Swansea and Manchester City but can also be dreadful like against Villa and Bournemouth. Whereas Fuchs, Kante and Morgan tend to find a level and remain consistently at that level. I can't remember many shockers by Fuchs but I can remember the Mahrez ones.

That, right there, is why Riyad's not ready for a Madrid/Barca yet.

 

On his day he's magical but he's best to stay with us for another year, find that level of consistency and then make that final step.

Simpson had a better game at home to Southampton than he did Everton imo.

Same applies to Wasilewski who I thought was better at Everton away than at home.

I imagine it's because foxestalk is made up of people who watch every match whereas all the other national awards are voted for by people who just watch the highlights on motd. This also why the national awards are scewed hopelessly towards attacking midfielders and strikers

Well of course it depends what your criteria is. I'd argue that Vardy and Kante have been more important to our team, with Drinky and Morgan both hovering just behind Mahrez, but thats based on influence rather than pure ability.

Of course in a system like this based on weekly ratings, three 7s beat a 9 and two 5s. Consistency is key of the course of the season and playing to a consistenly high standard trumps occasional world class performances

I don't think any of us would rank Riyad outside the top 5 this season.

The average rating metric isn't capable of measuring our 'best players' as such.

Riyad is a player who makes things happen. If he makes something happen in 7 out of 10 games he's doing an incredible job as a playmaker. He'll rate highly in those 7 games and get poor marks in the 3 he doesn't. Compare that to a Wes or a Fuchs who has been consistently impressive, almost without fail hitting above a 7/10.

That's why they rate higher. Doesn't mean anyone actually thinks they were bigger players for us this season in terms of ability or importance to the team.

Vardy was involved in more goals, Kante is the best player that position we have ever had and voted player of the season by the players, Drinkwater is an absolute machine, Morgan, Huth, Fuchs have all been outstanding at what they do and I would rate them all very highly. Not necessarily higher than Mahrez, it is difficult to compare across positions. Mahrez is a match winner and on his day is unplayable, but this is not something you say about any of those other players, "on their day", all season they have been amazing. Mahrez does drift in and out of games, what makes him irreplaceable is the fact that even in games he has not played well he has scored the goal that won us the points, I'm thinking games like Watford and Palace. It is also worth remembering he got targeted and nullified by the opposition, especially in the second half of the season. His penalty misses will also have cost him points in those games.

 

As others have said an incomplete compilation of votes over the season placing Mahrez 5th doesn't mean that the FT collective rate him as our fifth best player, he was voted player of the season by fans.

By this token, Christiano Ronaldo, with his occasional world class performances (remember, he is not as consistent as what you call "consistent" Leicester players), should be rated 7th or 8th on this thread ...
