fuchsntf Posted 24 July 2016 Posted 24 July 2016 Are the French authorities delibrately being downright spitefull. This weekend where they knew would be the heaviest on Dover/folkstone travel. Some foreigners stuck in cars blaming the British, not understanding it has nothing to do with UK customs but French. Nice was awfull, but there is no need to control every car, there is obvious areas of common sense that is just not taking place. Have we now with action seeing Government terrorism, delibrately using travelling families with kids to prove some stupid french civil service point. In their incompetence, and misconsuing security issues that are not relevant to this movement of people.I am sure some French minister wanted and waited to use this weekend totally ignorant of the consequences. I just hope there are other Europeans stuck in this queue trying to get home...
Guest Posted 24 July 2016 Posted 24 July 2016 Overreaction. It's just another story for the few to add to their holiday collection. I had friends who got from liverpool to the boat in Calais in 5 hours - this morning. Doesn't sound like the holdups lasted longer than 1 day.
Nick Posted 24 July 2016 Posted 24 July 2016 It's for safety. Their people are dying. They need to do everything they can to attempt to prevent that. Get used to to a lesser freedom of movement in future years too, this will depend on how and what our international security services share with each other and if arrangements can be made to work together effectively post EU exit.

Yeah, when we leave the EU the security forces will stop working together.

Just making things go slower, and not having enough staff at peak periods does not save lives, or improve x security, It actually clmpounds it. Delays at this t i me of year should be expected, a n d even with Harder border controls c and Security c h ecks, this chaos shown should of been avoided.. Why one approach to the Dover ports Should be harder or easier than others is poor traffic coordination and control. Yes x we are in difficult times, but that is nov excuse for letting the standards drop, and no excuse for poor organisation. Always a nice cop out to blame it all on security reasons, and as horrible as it sounds, I think its poor form to use the deaths of innocents to Map out any arguments, its this poor organisation that could actually add to the tally. I am sitting comfortably at home I have no agenda, but this downright pss poor planning and authority preporation and needs to be addressed g. Its at these times, where our concerns for security can be put forward, no organisation no realtime security or even concerns shown by the responsible, is what worries me. A radical determined to cause avoc, would have a fieldday in this situation, it isnt and wasnt Necessary sorry but I cant correct or backspace in this area of the new version..and typex doesnt do it..

They are arguably not working together now at a level that could be described as optimal. EU funding and membership had created an improving platform for greater inter-agency working and shared information systems and intel. Leaving is a barrier on lots of levels.
Guest Posted 24 July 2016 Posted 24 July 2016 point is: England voted for limiting movement and removing free movement. No point complaining about that happening now.

Other people's freedom of movement. Brits should have a divine right to go wherever they want whenever they want with no inconveniences along the way.

You seem to be assuming that we're all upset about this?I'm not I've never been to France and it wouldn't bother me if I never did. People travelled abroad before we joined the EU, if France wants to turn away tourism then it's their loss, there are other places to spend our money.

We've discussed above - you could go to the middle east. The English used to rule out there back in the day.

I think just dismissing the obvious hypocrisy shown isn't the way to go.

Guest Posted 24 July 2016 Posted 24 July 2016 Just now, Dr The Singh said: More then the French I would say I'll take that as a joke. The stereotype runs that the welsh, Scots, Irish, French and the majority of the rest of the world don't like the English. Whereas everyone, except a few Englishmen, love the French.

I'm an Englishman through and through and love England but I'd never return to Leicester to live compared to France. Maybe Cornwall with a seaview but it rains too much and it's too cold in the beautiful north, the midlands are too dirty on the whole and the SE is too full of people (especially Essexians).

Hell man i wouldnt live in leicester either. Cornwall potentially or perhaps the lakes.
Carl the Llama Posted 24 July 2016 Posted 24 July 2016 It definitely seems like a lot of English people - the sort who were telling us not so long ago how EU membership leaves our countrymen who fought and died in the world wars spinning in their graves - believe we're a superior people to the lesser humans of elsewhere. Spinning indeed.
Guest Posted 24 July 2016 Posted 24 July 2016 I can't believe that so many educated Englishmen are so small-minded that they think the French people are any different to the English people. I can promise you we are all the same!
