The thing is, are there even that many places like that any more?

Napoli, Legia Warsaw, Dynamo Kiev as well as pretty much anywhere in Russia, but a lot besides that will probably be fairly welcoming so long as you're not a complete knob while you're out there.

Precisely.

well said no other nation talks their own country down more than we do.

Er, a lot of posts in this thread seem to suggest half the cities in Europe are violent shitholes...

Agreed - it was happening on both sides and boiled my piss to be honest.

One of the world's most visited, culturally influential, advanced and economically stable countries in the world for over a century and we compare ourselves unfavourably to every other country on the planet. A lot of the same mentality on here. Try telling someone from Greece or Russia that Leicester is a hell hole because the Haymarket Centre is a bit drab and there aren't enough Michelin starred restaurants in the city centre. lol

Is this can't read day or something.

Find me one person who has described Leicester as a "hell hole" in this thread. No one.

It is not a hell hole, it is just very far from a desirable tourist destination, there's a big difference in those two statements.

Some people on here talking about cities like Mogadishu like they're Caracas.

Good airbnb scene in Mogadishu to be fair, and a surprisingly vibrant craft beer movement.

Sweet baby Jesus, I was highlighting the sentiment rather than slavishly quoting the posts.

The poster to whom I was referring was the chap who seems to think that Leicester is so unspeakably awful that fans who've had bricks and flares lobbed at them on a weekly basis in their domestic league would turn round and go home before they even got to the end of Granby Street.

Oh Rob, I'd ignore him he has serious issues with Leicester lol

It's just such bizarre logic.

'Well Sergei, remember last season when we got chased down the street by those maniacs wielding machetes and iron bars at Volgograd away?  Can't wait to go back again next week.'

'Hold on, that halal chicken shop only has two hygiene stars! Is that.... Is that a solitary middle aged tramp silently drinking from a beer can outside? Sod this. I'm off back to Rostov, you coming? '

Bilo, you, and IMO the council, miss one rather glaring point.

There is absolutely nothing exciting about Leicester, it is unremarkable, it is not a cultural city, it is not a particularly nice city architecturally, quite a few parts of it are rather unpleasant to look at actually. It has little to offer in the department of landmarks (that shit clock tower does not count) it has little to do that most other citys in Europe cannot offer (The Curve and the Space Centre are a bit shit lets face it) It is not an overally good night especially when compared with Nottingham. There is nothing to pimp out, there is no way on gods green anyone who comes here is going to A) want to come back B) recommend it to a friend for any other purpose than going to watch the team that pulled off one sports greatest miracles.

There is nothing to Market, and one dead king with a back defect is not going to turn Leicester into Barcelona!

Pabllo Pablo, our poor Pablo..like many others you forget...

We have a motorway sign of our own...'The Leicester'

We are Leicester,  we know what we are..!!!

Plus

We have, yourself, Col.city, Babylon, Bluetinted specs, Thracian, Bilo ,plus many more fighting to make sin of this Weird and wonderful world..:scarf:

We should probably look at our own supporters before judging others, if people are starting to poo on toilet floors on away days the last thing we should be concerned about is our reputation taking an hammering because Denzil's wife is flashing her dolphin tattoo to the German travellers.

Hull somewhat restored my faith in our travelling support.

Leicester really isn't too bad. In fact, the extensive work they've been doing has actually made around two thirds of it very nice.

Jubilee Square, Guildhall/Cathedral/RIII, The Lanes, the cluster of good bars (and fairly nice architecture) at the top of the High Street, Town Hall Square, New Walk, The Cultural Quarter/Curve, the station/London Road are all good.

I'm sure the market square will look good once the work is complete.

Highcross is a decent shopping centre with some decent restaurants.

The Haymarket and Burleys area is pretty grim, but that's the only part of the immediate city centre which is a genuine sh*thole these days.

Anyone saying it's a horrible place who hasn't visited for a while- head back and have a look around!

Haha! Definitely. It will take a lot more time and work, but they're on the right tracks.

The difference between european fans visiting Leicester and Leicester fans visiting european cities will be the treatment from Police. I was in Liverpool when Augsburg fans were about last year and police were very casual about them, can't imagine English fans will be treated in the same way.

Why on earth would you not want to spend the night in Nottingham but Leicester would be fine, just to stick to one point at a time as I am busy and do not have time to go through the rest.

Oh, FFS! The thread is about promoting the city, not about making an objective comparison of urban centres in the East Midlands.

If your are a foreigner, and you want to go to England, you want to see Nottingham because of Robin Hood, not the nightlife.

Non confrontational fans, will have no problem, in Western europe.

Hard to say how it will be, in the old east european countries, with home radical fans.

I seriously dont know if we have still the stupid elements within our travelling fans, make

no mistake any confrontational fan nabbed by police, may well spend time behind bars,

either in the country of arrest, or back in Uk after deportation.Singing and boisterous behaviour,

will not be judged unsocial, dont upset the locals ,but step out of line with aggresive behaviour, Police will go in blindly,

and they have undercover police who will also mix in with the crowds on the night before and game day.

The Roma Ultras are horrible, and the police in Rome facilitate their activities. I remember when they attacked Boro fans in Campo in 2006 - bricks, hammers, the full kit - the cops disappeared from Campo right before the attack, and didn't respond when people went to the police station (which is around the corner). But they do it every year for European competition. Nowadays, the ban alcohol sales around the games.
