chris_lcfc_85 Posted 4 December 2016 Posted 4 December 2016 When things aren't going well the first thing you need to do is just be alot harder to beat then build from there. we're not creating many chances with 2 up top so may as well flood midfield as nothing to lose. clearly we need mendy fit and drinkwater back which will help. mahrez has to start sub for a few games as he's just too lazy. gray has to start and I'd like to see both Schlupp and hernandez get a few games
the-blue-wildabeast Posted 4 December 2016 Posted 4 December 2016 We need to firstly get harder to beat as at the minute its easy. We need to protect the defence more, and being as we have little (or IMO no current fit CM), we may as well try and utilise our many attacking players that we have too many of. 4231 Hamer Simpson Morgan Morgan Fuchs Hernandez Mendy/Amartey/James Mahraz Gray Musa Vardy/Slimani or 532/352 Hamer Morgan Huth Beneloune Albrighton Fuchs Hernandez Mendy/King/Amartey/James/ Mahrez Vardy Okazaki/Slimini
foxfanazer Posted 4 December 2016 Posted 4 December 2016 Got to be the Christmas tree formation surely!
dedlock Posted 4 December 2016 Posted 4 December 2016 The most disappointing aspect this season compared to last is the lack of closing down, less energy and allowing the opposition more space. Not sure what system will alter the apparent complacency and lack of urgency that seems to have become a feature of our play.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 4 December 2016 Posted 4 December 2016 This assuming a fully fit squad, I think this is the formation/personnel to get things back on track. This would allow Mahrez to have less defensive responsibilities, it gives him freedom to play his game and be more creative. Mendy alongside Drinkwater, and the front three alternated between Albrighton, Slimani, Musa and Schlupp. What is also possible with 4-3-3, is the utility to change between attacking and defensive. For the CAM position, we have Okazaki, Mahrez, Gray and Kapustka who can all operate there. Alternatively, if we need to play defensive, we can remove the CAM position for CDM, which brings in the options of Amartey, Mendy and Ndidi (?). I also feel we've the feasibility within our squad to go 3-4-3 if we need an extra man in the midfield. Zieler/Schmeichel Simpson Morgan Huth Fuchs Mendy Drinkwater Okazaki Mahrez Vardy Gray
RizLCFC Posted 4 December 2016 Posted 4 December 2016 Schmeichel - The sooner he's back the better. But, he can't stop us leaking goals on his own. Zieler - Yes he's no Schmeichel, he's not commanding, looks shaky with the ball at his feet, kicking isn't great, but he's made some decent saves. We aren't leaking goals because of him and he doesn't deserve to be a scapegoat. Simpson - Decent, but I did want us to sign a RB in the summer, namely Bruno Peres, gutted to miss out on him, but Simmo not the biggest worry. Morgan - Slow on the turn but still good enough to see out this season in the PL. Huth - Too slow, shocking with the ball at his feet, kills most attacking set plays by fouling opposition players. Needs replacing in January. Thank you for being the difference and keeping us up in 2014/15, and for last season, especially your goals away at Tottenham and Man City. Fuchs - No issues with him. Mahrez - The only creative outlet we have, we either hoof it long or give it to him and expect him to create every time, he's got at least 2 players marking him at once and looks frustrated, probably because of the lack of quality we have around him. Doesn't deserve the criticism he's getting. Drinkwater - POTS so far. Amartey - Too young, thrown in at the deep end, defensively poor, looks better going forward, but needs to be in a midfield 3 if we continue to play him. King - PL is not his level, but he can do a job with 20 mins left. Shouldn't be starting games at all. No need to sell, good squad player. Albrighton - Picked it up in last 2 games but crosses generally very poor and overall performance too, needs to be replaced by Gray. Gray - No idea why he's not starting! Okazaki - Most in form striker at the moment and should be starting, either as a CAM, being the link between mid and attack, or a ST. Musa - Has played as a CF, ST, RW and LW, struggled to adapt and I don't think moving him around has helped, definitely shouldn't be playing LW. He needs a run of games to get going, already shown he has an eye for goal. Tends to play well with Shinji and I think that partnership needs to be given a few games. Schlupp - Comical at times but I think his physicality and pace needs to be used soon. If we're taking Mahrez off with 20/25 mins to go then get this lad on. Yes, we should've sold him to WBA in the summer but that ship has sailed. Slimani - Offers something, general link up play is good but not during the first half yesterday. Doesn't look like a £30m player but with better service he can score plenty of goals. Vardy - Confidence has definitely gone. Don't think his effort is that big of an issue as people are making out. Like Slimani, thrives on decent service which we haven't got. Mendy - Seriously hope this guy has beaten his injury woes and we can see what he's about, no doubt we'd be better with a full fit Mendy alongside Drinkwater. Hernandes - Should replace Huth, looks like he reads the game well, and that long throw is a weapon.
jim5000 Posted 4 December 2016 Posted 4 December 2016 Kasper (one day) Simpson Rodríguez Huth Fuchs Mendy Drinkwater (c) Albrighton Mahrez Shinji Gray 4-3-3 / 4-5-1
foxy boxing Posted 4 December 2016 Posted 4 December 2016 4 1 3 1 1 Slimani up top with Okazaki behind and someone protecting the back four with three in midfield. Obviously we need decent midfielders and with Drinkwater out I have no clue as to who that would be from Mendy King James and whoever else
Alf Bentley Posted 4 December 2016 Posted 4 December 2016 3-5-1-1: When fit.... Schmeichel Hernandez Morgan Fuchs Drinkwater Mendy/Amartey Mahrez King Albrighton Okazaki Slimani Plus: (1) Buy a quality central midfielder & centre-back in Jan - likely starters within a month (2) Some switching of positions: Drinkwater/King; Mahrez/Okazaki; King/Okazaki (3) Switching of personnel, depending on form & fatigue: e.g. Vardy, Ulloa, Musa, Gray, Schlupp
burleighfox Posted 4 December 2016 Posted 4 December 2016 Fitness and suspensions permitting: Schmeichel Simpson Morgan Hernandez Fuchs Albrighton Mendy Drinkwater Gray Okazaki Slimani
cityfanlee23 Posted 4 December 2016 Posted 4 December 2016 4-2-3-1 Kasper Simpson Hernandez Morgan Fuchs Mendy Amartey/James Mahrez Drinkwater Gray Slimani
murphy Posted 4 December 2016 Posted 4 December 2016 Well for Man City I'd try this formation: Schmeichel Zieler Hamer SImpson Huth Hernandez Morgan Wasilewski Beanalouane Chillwell Fuchs
Argarath Posted 5 December 2016 Posted 5 December 2016 Schmeichel Simpson - Hernandez - Huth - Morgan -Fuchs Gray - Drinkwater - Mendy Okazaki Slimani

I can see your logic but am I seeing a midfield three there? Without the ball I mean? I'm assuming Simmo and Fuchs as wing backs in your system?

If James is fit, I'd rather see him in there
sylofox Posted 5 December 2016 Posted 5 December 2016 Well if we go Kasper in goal then five at the back. We need to build a strong defensive wall. So I'm thinking a 3 and 2 bricklaying gang (not from persimon though) Midfield we need some mobile fast player. So the British 4x100 mtrs team. Then up front we need someone who can shoot. So an SAS sniper should do it. Well that's my fantasy team anyway.
SpinneyHillRanger Posted 5 December 2016 Posted 5 December 2016 Ok, this may seem a bit leftfield but.... I would go with a three man centre defence of Huth, Morgan and wait for it.... Amartey! The reasons are many for this, the main one being we need to solidify our defence as we look like we can concede goals at any time now that Kante is no longer baby-sitting Huth and Morgan. Now, I know it seems strange to put a guy like Amartey in centrl defence where he can't tackle to save his life and is also slow ....but I think if he is allowed to play the role like a link between defence and midfield, he might help out buildup play, as currently, as soon as huth, morgan, simpson receive it....the ball is given straight back to the opposition. Yes, I know Amartey play sideways a lot, but if Claudio gives him the responsibility to distribute forward, then we might just see the best of him. He was supposed to be the best player at Copenhagen and Walsh must have seen something in him. So in defence I would have Huth and Morgan, with Amartey sat between them a bit like a defensive minded sweeper. Then I'd have Fuchs and Simpson/hernandez/Albrighton as Wing Backs. In centre midfield I'd go with Drinky and King, not ideal but we have to use what we've got. Then I'd have Okazaki playing a deeper role helping out in midfield but also breaking forward now and then so we don't get isolated up there. For me, Okazaki is the heart of the team, he is the only one running hard like last year, he falls down a lot but he always makes a difference and he always puts in a shift. King and Drinky are the box to box midfielders, currently drinky is trying to do too much playing from the back or rather playing long hopeful balls to vardy. I want drinky to be the box to box man, linking play, dashing forward and making good tackles.... basically like how he and kante ran things last year. With Amartey being more of the ball player from the back it will allow drinky and king to be the links between the lines. That leaves us, with Mahrez and Vardy/Slimani up front. I'd love to get gray in the team but I can only see him playing as a winger - so won't fit in this formation unless he comes in for Mahrez. Now all of this is a radical shift from our basic 442.... but I think because we lose kante....we lose the luxury of 2 in midfield. Amartey/king can't do kantes role. So we need a rethink. In terms of our mentality, I think we need to lose our egos and go back to what we were good at, in terms of being compact. So now, when we don't have possession, we need to get 4 at the back and Amartey drinky and king all patrol the space just in front of the defence.... making sure Huth and Morgan are babysat.... as they seem very vulnerable. We have Okazaki chaing around in front of them and the wing backs tucked in so we are really compact.... no one is scoring against us. Once we get the feel of keeping clean sheets again, it's only a matter of time before we start winning again. Clean sheets will be our best way to rise up the league table. When in possession, the key is to get Albrighton and Fuchs in positions out wide close to the opposition goal to cross the ball in for slimani. If we work our way in through the middle we still have mahrez, okazaki and vardy/slimani. So we have a few more avenues to goal. Obvious weak links, currently in this team would be Amartey and King. And it's a real shame I can't find a way to get Gray in the team - as he has shown he can make a differance.
Guest Posted 5 December 2016 Posted 5 December 2016 2 options for me. something like Slimani Okasaki Mahrez Albrighton Drinkwater Amartey Fuchs Hernandez Morgan Simpson Zieler or Vardy King Amartey Drinkwater Chillwell, Fuchs, Huth, Hernandez Morgan Simpson Zieler
RoyFox Posted 5 December 2016 Posted 5 December 2016 Claudio it's time to get the pizza incentive back on, pack that midfield just do it! we've got enough pace to counter
