I'd go with 3-5-2 with Hernandez in the right of the 3, Huth on the left and Wes in the centre at the back, Amartey, Mendy and Drinkwater in midfield. I'd have then have Albrighton and Fuchs as wing-backs pushing up and then Mahrez playing just off Slimani at the top.

I just think the extra body at CB and at CM would make us a bit less lightweight. The issue then of course would be that the delivery from Albrighton and Fuchs would need to be high quality otherwise Slim's out of the game.

Ditch all these so called attacking players and tighten up all round. We concede 2 a game. Nothing's getting won that way. 2 wingers and 2 strikers yet we create feck all. Ditch at least two for more solidity.

As for with whom we fill those spots. Lord knows!!

We need to stop conceding soft goals, particularly from or immediately after set pieces.

We need to be more competitive in midfield,we should have recruited at least one more quality midfielder in the summer.

I don't pretend to be a tactically astute poster but it's clear that 4-4-2 leaves us too vulnerable and the defensive discipline of last season is 'so last season'!

CR may have been hampered by injuries we didn't have last season but better recruitment in the summer and a sensible pre-season would have helped.

I am not so sure, that the formation/system is the problem, because no team is playing with a static formation the whole match.

Yes, we normaly start with 4-4-2, but depending on the score, or tactical changes by the other side, that can mutate into a

4-4-1-1 (Watford), 4-2-3-1 (West Brom) or even a 4-3-3 (Porto)  formation. And back again.

Our problem is, that all too often, we seem to play no system at all. Chaos instead of order. Especially in the middle of the

park. Let 's face it: Amartey and King will never ever morph into a new Kante, because they are not cool enough .

Put them under pressure and they start to panic. Amartey is simply to young for that position. He lacks the necessary

experience to make the right decisions, when the going gets tough. And that his technical skills are rather limited, doesn't

make it easier for him. Under normal circumstances (Drinkwater and Mendy available) he (and King) would sit on the bench.

At the moment, I can't see, that CR had any other options, because I doubt, that James after 18 months on the sidelines, will

be able to solve our problem in the engine-room. And to buy another "Wunderkind" from a second-rate league smells a bit of

desperation (Silva probably is no longer interrested to join LCFC). Okay, 38.5 m for Silva would have been an awfull lot of

money, but right now, it looks, as if it would have been a very good (and vital) investment.

But I know, hindsight is easier than foresight.

I would try a 4-3-3 with a defensive centre mid to sit infront of the back 4. If defence is still leaking goals and looking shaky, then move to a 3-5-2 but with Fuchs and Albrighton as wingbacks

The CL has been a poisoned chalice!

A poisoned chalice of our own making. The CL has only been a tarnished cup of hemlock rather than the finest goblet of vintage wine because we ourselves have treated it like that unfortunately. The group opposition is piss-poor in quality, perhaps Porto excepted to an extent, as we all know deep down.

Yet nevertheless we treated it with caution and trepidation rather than face the challenge with a something of a swagger and joy and that has impacted on our PL plans and performances.

Fearless Foxes that never quit sadly at the moment have become Fearful Foxes that never get started. You see it in the way we approach games. Time to be bolder in selection and formation in the PL and pull ourselves out of a nosedive of self-induced decline.

If all are fit:

         Kasper

Simpson        Morgan      Huth       Fuchs

                      Mendy

Mahrez           King      James         Gray

                       Slimani

Mendy shielding the back four. King and James getting the ball to Gray and Mahrez as quickly as possible. Looking for quick crosses to Slimani
