Aston Villa are rivalling West Bromwich Albion in the race to sign Leicester City wonderkid Layton Ndukwu, according to a report by The Daily Mail.

The 18-year-old scored a 55 yard wonder goal against Liverpool on the weekend, which has alerted other clubs to his talents.

Both Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion are monitoring Layton Ndukwu’s contract situation with the current Premier League champions.

Ndukwu is out of contract this summer and could therefore move for free when his current deal expires at the end of the 2016/17 season.

The England youth international has already trained with the first team under Claudio Ranieri and is highly regarded by the club, who are desperate to keep him amid interest from their Midlands rivals.

Better contract.

He could do it himself he only needs advice from Vardy.

Hope it is this or we could have another Dodoo situation where he still chooses to go elsewhere in search of first team football. Need to start showing these youth players they can make it here and if what is rumoured for the team sheet tomorrow is true then its great news.

I dont know personally but according to people in the U23 thread and the pre match thread Barnes is at least on the sub bench, dont know about others but I would be amazed if Gray doesn't start.

If Vardy's agent gets him a deal, he'll never have to run for another ball ever again, or get even have a shot on target for months on end

Muzzy Izzet told me 3-4 years ago this lad is the most highly rated youngster we've ever had since the days of academies. He's certainly lost his way the previous 18 months or so but I've noticed of late he's starting to excel in the U23 games. Will be interesting to see how he develops.

We wont know about these youngsters until they go out on loan. Chelsea seem to loan out 50 a season and one or two come back a few years later worthy of first team squad selection. Its almost a numbers game. Id like to see more players like Ndukwu loaned out so we can see if they are Heskeys or Dodoos.

BTW I cant think of any youth player who we have let go in recent times that has done amazingly well. You could argue Max Gradel has done OK but so many of them have ended up in the lower leagues or worse, the SPL!!!

The only reason why I even bothered to put him up is because he is the best of a terrible bunch. He hasnt set the world alight and I probably only put him there because he transferred on for 5m in his career which is a decent transfer fee. The fact that he is 29 and not really achieved anything spectacular only is the reminder that so many of our youths have basically had shite lower end careers.

we obviously want to keep hold of our promising youngsters and see them develop and go into the first team, that would be so satisfying for the club and the fans
