Katy Posted 29 September 2005 Posted 29 September 2005 Steve Guppeh was wingeresque but thats beside the point, maybe CL has finally realised the set up at present isnt working. Good for him and hopefully good for us
shen Posted 29 September 2005 Posted 29 September 2005 i've been dying to see us get a winger for 15 years. Piper...?
step Posted 29 September 2005 Posted 29 September 2005 Why go and get a winger who will waste his time and effort providing balls to park quality stikers who cant put the ball in the net. Why not go and get a half decent striker who WILL put the ball in net ? Money, we dont have any
Gené and Tonic Posted 29 September 2005 Posted 29 September 2005 I'm very happy with this signing, but he is predominantly a left winger. Surely a right sided one would be better? We already have Titatto, Wilcox and Hammil on the left, with only Sylla on the right (Hughes and Hammond aren't naturally wingers).
Head Honcho Posted 29 September 2005 Posted 29 September 2005 You don't remember Stevie Lynex then? "Skin 'em Steve!!!" If he score's as many goals as Lynex,we'll be alright
Ricey Posted 29 September 2005 Posted 29 September 2005 Fantastic signing by the sounds of things, right player and the right time. Let's hope he plays on Saturday, I doubt he will though.
Burnsy Posted 29 September 2005 Posted 29 September 2005 Money, we dont have any Who mentioned money LOAN signing

Shum Posted 29 September 2005 Posted 29 September 2005 Just been reading up on the lad, left winger! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can we play with 2 out and out wingers, that would be grand! I would love to see a midfield of Sylla-Hughes-Joey-Smith
spirefox Posted 29 September 2005 Posted 29 September 2005 I've just been on the Arsenal website where it says that Smith was sent off last wednesday for violent conduct,so we might not be able to play him anyway.
Matt Posted 29 September 2005 Posted 29 September 2005 I've just been on the Arsenal website where it says that Smith was sent off last wednesday for violent conduct,so we might not be able to play him anyway. Sounds like he'll fit in just right here then

Nationwider Posted 29 September 2005 Posted 29 September 2005 "He has so many ingredients that you love to have when you’re a young player and I am confident he will be a big success. He's creative, he's quick, he can score goals, he's left-footed as well, and he's a great crosser of the ball." *drools*
Nationwider Posted 29 September 2005 Posted 29 September 2005 source? LINKAGE They've got it second hand, though, so I don't know exactly when he said it. Still, I like the sound of it!
C-man Posted 29 September 2005 Posted 29 September 2005 Slaloming his way through the Highbury ranks is a young Islington-born left-winger who is causing quite a stir with his performances for the Arsenal second-string  18-year-old Ryan Smith. If you take former Gunner Marc Overmars’ pace, add the grace and composure of Thierry Henry, throw in the vision and close control of Dennis Bergkamp and mix in the nimble turning ability, dribbling and crossing of another ex-Gunner, Sylvinho - before letting it simmer and garnishing with a level head, what do we have? The recipe to a potentially potent addition to Arsène Wenger’s arsenal. And it’s a point not lost on the Arsenal boss: “He [smith] has so many ingredients that you love to have when you’re a young player and I am confident he will be a big success,†Wenger told Arsenal.com. “He’s creative, he’s quick, he can score goals, he’s left-footed as well, and he’s a great crosser of the ball.†Smith, who joined Arsenal as a scholar in 2003, suffered a major setback at the start of the 2004/05 season, sustaining a career-threatening cruciate ligament injury. But he battled back to appear in the Carling Cup last term. “He had a bad injury, Ryan, at a young age, but he’s now back to full fitness and he can be a very good support [player] for us,†said Wenger. Smith himself spoke to Arsenal.com recently about his ambitions for this year’s campaign. “My main focus is to really, really push myself next season and try my best,†he said. Another young Gunner, defender Ryan Garry - who himself overcame a long-term injury - thinks his more attack-minded namesake is destined for great things. “He’s a terrific player,†said Garry. “Technically he is very good, he’s got a lot of pace and he’s very positive in the way he plays. “Sometimes I’m fortunate enough to be playing behind him and obviously I can see him doing his stuff, and you know it’s wonderful to watch when he’s in full flow.". For the younger players at Highbury, making the step up to a regular first-team berth is easier said than done - not least because of the world-class calibre of the players ahead of them. But Wenger had some encouraging words for his fledglings. “We must focus on the young players we have and give them a chance,†he said. If Smith gets his chance, and Wenger gets Ryan firing, Arsenal may have another real star in the making. Sounds a bit good....
Blue Arrow Posted 29 September 2005 Posted 29 September 2005 Personally and i'll get slated for this , I'd like us to play 4-3-3 or if you want to call it 4-5-1 Douglas Stearman McCarthy Dublin Sheehan Williams Gudjonnson Hughes Hume Smith de Vries im sure thats called a 4-1-2-2-1

Jonbluefox9 Posted 29 September 2005 Posted 29 September 2005 He did look good for Arsenal reserves against us last season although he was playing against Peter Canero at right back and he was piss poor.
