Claudio Ranieri has provided an explanation as to why big money signing Ahmed Musa has not been starting games at Leicester City.

Record signing Islam Slimani and Jamie Vardy are the manager’s favourites duo upfront with Musa battling with Andy Gray, Shinji Okazaki and Leonardo Ulloa for the position of third choice striker.

However Ranieri believes the former CSKA Moscow man will have a big role to play in the team when Riyad Mahrez, and Islam Slimani team up with Algeria for the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

” We are approaching a crucial period in English football where every player is key, In January we won’t be bringing in any new forward when Slimani and Mahrez head to the Cup of Nations, we have Musa”, Ranieri said.

” Musa has quality and this is the reason why we bought him, he will play lot of games in January, He could be our joker. I have faith in him”.

It will be nice to see more of Musa on a regular basis in January. I do genuinely think there's more to come from him. It's a similar case for a lot of players, with game time we will probably start to see the best of him. I'd like to see him through the middle, but he's capable of doing a job out wide too.

He prefers playing on the left and not that keen on playing down the middle.

Surely if he goes to 'options' - 'settings' - 'preferences' he can just select 'down the middle'?

Little surprised by that as I feel he could be very effective centrally. Seems capable out wide though which is good.

so we'll look to see if Musa smashes it in January. smashing

Musa will smash any team he comes up against while playing for Nigeria at AFCON in January.

I assume the main lineup will be Vardy and Okazaki up front with Gray and Albrighton on the wings. Or will Albrighton and Gray vy for the same spot?

WTF is AFCON?

It's when you get an email from a Nigerian Prince wanting your bank details in order to pay  money into your bank account.....:o
