Leamington Fox Posted 23 December 2016 Posted 23 December 2016 Was there anything better than being in a packed, standing end when we scored an away goal?

There would usually be about five or six of my mates in there and we'd all end up separated, missing shoes and laughing our heads off after a goal.

I used to watch him from the East Stand. I would go with Lineker, though. Andy Peake scored one of my favorite goals ever at Filbo. It was against Liverpool in 1984 and he smashed in past Grobelaar from miles out and nearly uprooted the net. It was 3-3 under the floodlights in front of 27,000 and you couldn't move. Can't find it anywhere on YouTube though sadly

Can't find it anywhere on YouTube though sadly I had it on VHS somewhere but that was decades ago. I was a Junior Fox and I won the Leicester City quiz when I was about 10. I had my pick of the squad to have my photo taken with on the pitch. I chose Andy Peake, partly because he was from Harborough, like me. I also met Gordon Milne and went into the dressing room before we played (as I recall it) Newcastle (who had Keegan). Lineker was in the dressing room and didn't even look up when I was introduced. *cue someone to Google the match and realise some of this must be factually incorrect*

But i also have a bit of a soft spot for Joachim and in some ways he stood out more for me because Heskey had a much better team around him.... I'll never forget that goal.. it was a cup game.. played in Nottingham where he had TWO defenders about 5 ft ahead of him near to the edge of the box.. he just knocked it through the middle of them and somehow found this burst of pace to get there and score. In the time it took him to cover 12ft they had covered about 5 ft. And then another goal he scored where he was running to the edge of the box and hit the ball with what seened like his little toe and some how curled it past and bent it over the defenders and into the roof of the net. Those are two goals i havnt seen any other Leicester player score anything similar... Edit: found the videos.. Started the run for both of them in his own half aswell!! ( i love how in this first one in the goal celebration Grayson kicked Ormandroyed in the balls! ) A little more than just a cup game!! It was a play off semi final

November 1982 I think and it finished 2-2. Lineker and English scored ours and Keegan scored both of theirs. Another one I can't find on YouTube though!

Ah, that isn't the game I was thinking of, this was: http://www.11v11.com/matches/leicester-city-v-liverpool-18-april-1984-87105/ I could have sworn Peake scored a similar goal in the '84 game, but my memory might be playing tricks on me! Either way, he certainly scored some belters for us alright

I bet there's been some real screamers over the years that people will never see.

Chico1958 Posted 23 December 2016 Posted 23 December 2016 Shilton for me: Best Goalkeeper I ever saw live, OK as a person he left a lot to be desired but as a player he was one of the best. It's just a pity he played for the others....................... You know the ones I mean obviously Graham Cross Rodney Fern John Sjoberg David Nish Frank McLintock Julian Joachim Emile Heskey Matt Piper Tommy Wright Gary Lineker Now that's not a bad bunch, I really do like King, but I would.............. He plays for Wales to God I feel old
onekeithweller Posted 24 December 2016 Posted 24 December 2016 Ally Brown deserves a mention. Lots of great home grown players in the 70/71 team. Shilton, Nish, Whitworth, Cross, Fern and Brown amongst others.
