Matt Posted 27 December 2016 Posted 27 December 2016 Quote Leicester City will not be dwelling on an impending relegation battle in the second half of the season, midfielder Marc Albrighton has said. City's home defeat to Everton at the King Power Stadium has left Claudio Ranieri's men just three points above the relegation zone, having lost half of their games so far, but Albrighton said the players will ignore all talk of relegation. "I don't think we can (think about relegation) as players," said Albrighton. "We have to stay positive and keep looking forward. There is a long way to go in the season. We are only halfway but we need to have a better second half to the season than the first half. "If people are talking on the outside about relegation battles that is up to them. As players, we are the only ones who can turn this around and to do that we have to be focused on moving forwards." City were without striker Jamie Vardy and defenders Robert Huth and Christian Fuchs through suspension, but Albrighton believes the City squad should be able to cope better in their absence. "Of course we missed Vards," said Albrighton. "He is a big part of the team and the squad, but we have players who can fill in. "Islam Slimani and Shinji Okazaki are good players to have to come in. They will do a job and I think they did. "It just wasn't meant to be. It was difficult, a tough game and we didn't get anything out of it. "Every season is built on your home form. Last year we made a point of saying we needed to win our home games and that got us success. This year we have struggled and not made it a fortress." City were impressive in their last home game, beating Manchester City in emphatic fashion, and many predicted that could be the turning point of City's frustrating season, but it has proven to be another false dawn and Albrighton said the players must do more to give the Blue Army something to sing about. "We thought we had turned the corner after the win over Manchester City and then after the way we got a point at Stoke we thought it could be a turning point," said Albrighton. "It was tough. We were a bit flat, there weren't enough umph about the place. It was flat and we need to do something about that to make the fans make some noise. "We need to be the ones to start it off and we didn't do that." http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/players-are-not-thinking-of-relegation/story-30012109-detail/story.html This "We're too good to go down" mentality from players and fans alike is a dangerous one to have.
Barky Posted 27 December 2016 Posted 27 December 2016 Would rather he said that than "yeah, there's a good chance we'll go down. What can you do like."
EnglishOxide Posted 27 December 2016 Posted 27 December 2016 To be fair, we have some absolutely shite teams around us. Things would have to get spectacularly worse for us to be relegated. He's right in saying that we should be looking forwards rather than backwards when we aren't even at the halfway stage of the season.

I'd rather him say nothing. But realise they have media duties, however i'd rather him take note and realise we're in a dangerous territory. Don't hear/notice all this cheap talking when we're doing well though do you...

Yes... they gave equally mundane and meaningless cliches when we were doing well too, that's just what happens when they have media duties.

Doesn't really matter about the shite teams down there, we need 40 points which means doing better in the second half of the season than we did in the first.

We got beat by two of those "absolutely shite teams".

Agreed. Think we'll have to do another great escape this season.

It's the same as Newcastles last year and look what happened to them.

They'd been saying it for years tbf, despite being a relegation battle year after year after year, it was gonna catch them one season.
ZeGuy Posted 27 December 2016 Posted 27 December 2016 This mindset "we're too good to go down" lead precisely to the actual situation. The smoke screen (UCL) that was used as excuse until now is starting to wear off. Keep it going and we'll see where they'll be in may.

Exactly the Champions League excuse was valid for a certain time, "get through the group stages and we'll focus and kick on in the league" but it's not valid anymore and it turns out it was being used exactly what i've just described it as - an excuse.
Dynamogoon Posted 27 December 2016 Posted 27 December 2016 Had the burying your head conversation with my father in law last night after the game. Sick of the "we'll be fine, too good to go down" rubbish. We are in a dog fight and unfortunately I'm not sure how we are gonna get out of it
adejo92 Posted 27 December 2016 Posted 27 December 2016 Newcastle had this attitude last season....they lost 1-0 to Sheff weds yesterday in the Championship. Oh, and villa, Albrighton should know all about them. Never too good to go down, infact, we dont look good enough for the championship at the minute.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 27 December 2016 Posted 27 December 2016 I wasn't worried until the Sunderland game but to be swatted aside against them is bad. Mid table sides come away with a draw in that game.
