Chasing these lost causes created uncertainty and made his marker lose confidence. It was a unique attribute within the premier league last year (because it does often look like a lost cause that most others couldn't be arsed to chase) and it helped get him in the England set up. He's a senior pro on probably the highest wage in the team and as such he should be leading by example. For whatever reason we've suddenly got a Vardy-Lite edition. Even if he's lost a yard of pace and lost his finishing touch, the one thing he was always great at last year was chasing lost causes, running around like a blue arsed fly and generally being a pest. This year he's a defenders dream. but he wasn't on his own he was backed up by Shinji and the Kante twins and then Albrighton joined in
kingfox Posted 2 February 2017 Posted 2 February 2017 What I don't understand is why he changed it again after Everton, we played 4-3-3, we won 2-1 and it was our first away win of the season, why change it again, why change a winning formula? We should of sticked with it, try it again and see how it goes, but nope he changed it again against Chelsea and we got destroyed, changed it again against Southampton we got destroyed. After that he goes on about going back to basics, go back to 4-4-2 like that's worked this season, apart from a few home games the majority of the time we've played it we've looked awful. Players & manager are both partly to blame; however when you keep changing formation the players don't know whether they're coming or going, we win a match yet he still changes it after, baffling.
Donut Posted 2 February 2017 Posted 2 February 2017 Changing formations is a much smaller part of the issue. A new manager could come in, but he would still be sending the players out in a 442, 433 etc. Its up to them to put the effort and commitment in, which they simply are not doing. And if they cant, or wont do that, talk of formations is irrelevant. Because none will work.

To be fair, he wasn't great last year (overhead kick apart) and he's been worse this year but in the brief periods of time when he's not falling over, he does try. Twin Kante was a massive loss yeh and Albrighton appears to have forgotten how to attack and defend but that aside, it doesn't change the fact that our main man, our sheer force of energy on the pitch last year appears to be going through the motions and unable to get himself out of his malaise.

Dickov22 Posted 3 February 2017 Posted 3 February 2017 Nothing to do with tactics, the players don't like the manager. Simple.

jim5000 Posted 4 February 2017 Posted 4 February 2017 The thing is about the tinkering making players unsure of their roles. Surely this is the most ridiculous thing ever? These are professional football players at the top of their profession, a team that won the title last year. They have literally played football all day every day, for their entire life. "oh no Claudio, I don't understand what to do if you make me stand 20 feet from where I usually stand" /facepalm
