EGBFitness Posted 11 February 2017 Posted 11 February 2017 Can we not just enjoy both of them for the success we achieved rather than having to pick!? surely winning the premier league tops anything though!? Let's all be honest, we never in our wildest dreams imagined that sort of success of last season, at best we expected something similar to the success we seen under MON in regards to mid table positioning and good cup runs. (No disrespect to the achievements during that time) Obviously we seen a lot of success with MON but over the few seasons in the premier we seen consistency but some seasons slightly better than others, if your to compare the 2 eras you need to look at the space of a few years - both promoted sides and in the premier league for a few seasons. MON era was a pretty steady ship, constantly looking to progress as a club and cup success, this era has literally been a ****ing rollercoaster! Heartbreak at Watford, Ectasy winning the championship, disaster 7 months in prem followed by disbelief surviving, ultimate winning the premier, confusion of this season The crazy comparison is both eras exceeded fans expectations and if our season doesn't turn around both will also be in danger of getting ripped apart just as fans can start to believe - probably worst thing about this era is that it feels slightly self inflicted as previously we had the pleasure of watching Dennis W*** and Taylor do that for us.
Foxxed Posted 11 February 2017 Posted 11 February 2017 When you're next in that there London town and you meet some chap from Chile, and he asks where you're from, and he actually knows where Leicester is, because of the league cup and medium stint in the prem, then I will clear up the 2015/2016 shrine I've set up in the spare room, and once again fly the mon flag.
Mickyblueeyes Posted 11 February 2017 Posted 11 February 2017 The MON era was special for what it was. Punching above our weight and giving a good account of ourselves against the big boys. However, if the MON era was us as featherweight fighting at middleweight, last season was a jump from Featherweight to super heavyweight. This season does put a mark on last season. However, in terms of success there is no comparison.
crazyleicester Posted 11 February 2017 Posted 11 February 2017 This current era is much more special for me for so many reasons. MON put us on the map, got us trophies and even a taste for European football. However, we knew that we had a team that had no real major superstars who had limitations. Our style of play and profile of the club didnt seem high enough for us to kick on with top signings and had to find bargains like Savage, Lennon and Izzet in order for us to improve and ultimately you cant kick on as a team or club when you live like that. This generation is different though. We have better owners, much better individuals, Balon Dor nominees, players of the year from not only out home nation but even Continents. Our squad is full of Internationals that include two for England along with other respected nations. We have spent millions on kids for the future as well which was something that lacked from the MON days. We now have players that attract interest from clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal and even Barcelona but the difference with this generation is its not a forgone conclusion that we will lose our players to the so called big clubs, as keeping Chilwell when Liverpool chased him and Vardy turning Arsenal down being another. Keeping Mahrez was further proof about our profile. Oh, we also won the prem against the big boys!!!!!!!!! MON helped raise our profile to one level but Ranieri and the current squad has taken us up a load of levels. It may sound Ironic as we stare relegation in the face and part of me wishes we had that toughness that MONs squads had and the Characters on the pitch like Elliot, Walsh or Lennon but with these owners and this set of players we are set for the future. But of course we need to stay up
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 11 February 2017 Posted 11 February 2017 Despite first going when MON was manager I cannot remember much from those days. Looking at highlights and hearing stuff from that era I have just come to think that 90s football was just amazing and I'd love to be my age now then. MOM era unfortunately soon destroyed by Taylor

leicesterlad1989 Posted 12 February 2017 Posted 12 February 2017 In terms of achievement, last season totally ecplises anything from the MON era. You could also argue that this season, albeit a poor one, has seen us qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League. That in itself beats most of what we achieved under MON. However, my fondest memories will always be from the MON era. That team and squad were my heroes and idols. I was at an age where I looked up to them and would recreate goals scored on the school playground. The 4 goals scores at Pride Park were difficult to recreate but we still managed it. Diving headers on concrete were painful, even back then. The joy I felt going to Filbert Street is something I cant describe but its a different feeling going to modern day football. I take going to football for granted now. Back then it was a massive treat for me. As some have rightly pointed out we were shocking at times under MON but that didnt matter to me then and it doesnt now. That was the start of my love for Leicester City and without that era, I may not have been around to see us become Champions of England.
HighPeakFox Posted 12 February 2017 Posted 12 February 2017 The irony was better in the olden days...

Leicesterpool Posted 14 February 2017 Posted 14 February 2017 Do you reckon MON could get jealous about last year I mean before last season, MON was considered leicester's greatest manager.
