ozleicester Posted 13 February 2017 Posted 13 February 2017 The comment of "he gets no service" that is being used in regard to Vardy, has (IMO) become a bit of an out for him. When Slim came on yesterday we were able to find him, granted he didnt finish the job, but at least he was touching the ball and looking at the goal. The same applies for Gray, he was able to get the ball and try to do something with it. Vards is just not making the right runs and our setup is not right, other clubs setup to prevent the in behind ball. Claudio needs to change our setup and Vardy needs to offer an alternative option outside of run fast behind.
Babylon Posted 13 February 2017 Posted 13 February 2017 When he did get the ball it bounced off him or he passed it to their player.
jmono84 Posted 13 February 2017 Posted 13 February 2017 I'd only use vards as a left winger in a 4231 with slim in the central role
vanity Posted 13 February 2017 Posted 13 February 2017 Agree, Vardy is clearly pressing and wholly ineffective. To me, the why of it is irrelevant in the end. Whatever is wrong with him is not affecting Slim. Slim is in position to score, and they will start going in. He could just as easily have scored 3-4 goals the last two games. Vardy is nowhere near getting a good shot on goal, he is pressing, he looks a complete mess, he just needs a break for 4-5 games while we see what else we have. Vardy can still be very useful, but we need to see a more balanced attack. Slimani in the box, Mahrez to the right, Chilwell and Gray to the left, spread them out and attack the box, Even if Slim misses, good things happen when the ball is bouncing in front of the other goal.

And yet twice in the space of 20 seconds he came closer to scoring than Vardy has done for two months. Whether Slimani played well or not is not the topic at hand - the question is whether Vardy's movement is of sufficient quality to allow chance to be created. That Slimani not only found himself with a headed opportunity but also with the sort of one Vardy was gobbling up last season (both within 20 minutes of coming on) suggests that just pointing at "poor service" is reductive.

lgfualol Posted 13 February 2017 Posted 13 February 2017 Scored in one of our last 25 games. This loyalty to players is why we are where we are. He isn't even contributing at all. He is just an expensive passenger at this point. Doesn't chase the ball, can't link up play, can't run past defenders, no aerial threat, etc. Actually feel sorry for him because he is so crap now. If he starts vs Liverpool or Sevilla I will cry.

Difference is that the way we're playing (although it's generous to call it that) can work for slimani, a man who can battle in the air. He's got more hope with the aimless punts than vardy, a short arse speed merchant, does. The problem for Vardy is that the service is abysmal, as in it's completely the wrong type - it genuinely seems like the players have listened to our critics from last season too much and bought into the hoofball nonsense. We were direct last season, but in an entirely different manner, we were precise and straight at the jugular when we had the ball. Moronic elitists claimed we were doing what we do now, and it's like the players believe them.

norwichfox Posted 13 February 2017 Posted 13 February 2017 I think the only service that would be appropriate for the majority of this team is a burial service

Fox92 Posted 13 February 2017 Posted 13 February 2017 No service when he's on his own. The gap between midfield and Vardy is far too big. But when we played with two strikers up front second half, they both had chances. Vardy should have hit the target granted. Ranieri has to realise we've got to start with Slimani and Vardy.
