That would be ironic!

Yes, I would still think it a bad idea. Although - perhaps Corbyn being an "IRA sympathiser" might be able to mollify sinn fein to accept such a deal...

I'm not talking about a majority, just for the left to be bigger than the Tories - would that still require the DUP?

Yes.

Conservatives and DUP have 328 seats so even if you roped in Sinn Fein you still need the DUP.

Although after you have spent the last week moaning about an unstable government it's weird you are generally touting this as it would be ten times more unstable than what you are complaining about.

I don't think it's a good idea, it's just a question. It's more about the weakness of the current government tbf.

And the question isn't whether the other parties equal more than the Tories + DUP, it's whether Labour, Lib Dems, Green and SNP equal more than the Tories.

It's purely a hypothetical.

**** getting into bed with someone like the DUP just to get a Labour majority government in.

That's wrong and ****ing immoral whoever does it.

The Tory / DUP deal is a joke.

I'd rather another election was called and Labour won it properly this time.

Nope - Tories 317 seats - Labour, Plaid, SNP, Green and Liberals 312.

When you look at it Labour did shit, barely any better than Brown, Corbyn had just managed to set the bar so low previously it somehow looked a success. They are still miles away from a majority.

They are but realistically it was still an incredible result coming from so far behind 7 weeks out and with a party that had been campaigning against him for 2 years.

Let's be honest, the Tories haven't had a decent majority for 30 years even from winning positions so a 7 week swing like that is more than impressive.

Actually, it's a funny thing - this country is seen as generally being pretty conservative and the conservatives as the party of power but they haven't had more than a slender majority since the 1987 election. Perhaps we're actually more socialists that don't quite trust other socialists after all?

It was a 2% swing to Labour in the election, it's actually not that much, both main parties were flattered by the voting collapse of the third parties. May got the biggest vote share since Major but I'm not going to convince myself it's a victory for her, it wasn't.

I don't think we are socialists at all, I just think we have a lot of young people who haven't seen what socialism is yet decided to vote for someone who promised them a lot of things, they soon might and at least then we'll kill it off for another 30 years.

Nope.

But they've seen the alternative.

You keep peddling this 'free stuff for the youth' line despite the fact that the older generations also vote just for themselves. It's half the reason the young have the problems they have and fair play to them for demanding change. The Tory's biggest problem will come if they refuse to listen.

Well maybe soon they can see why the old and wise prefer that alternative.

Which of those categories do you fit, Matt?

Why both of course!

I'm sure I'm wrong and you are all right and Jeremy Corbyn will lead an incredibly successful government that finally proves socialism can work.

I'm foolish for even daring to suggest otherwise.

Finally! Now turn the internet off and head back to the common room - they're waiting for you to start tonight's game of Bingo.

What a load of sanctimonious, condescending horse shit. Do the Tory party pay you to come up with all of your propaganda?

I voted for the Labour Party not for Jeremy Corbyn, much in the same way as you, Webbo and several others quite openly talked about voting for the Conservative Party in spite of Theresa May's awful campaign.

Next time I won't bother, I'll stay at home and encourage anyone under 50 to do likewise. That way everyone who is 50+ (who is obviously far wiser and more informed than I am) can decide the vote.

(We'll also just conveniently ignore all the "old and wise" Labour voters who are 50+ and all the young Tories under 50 because that doesn't fit the narrative of our identity politics)

- The funniest thing (consequences of this current mess aside) about all of this is that the man that so many Tories despise, that has been generally poor as leader, has been continuously under pressure from swathes of his own MP's and has seen most of his shadow cabinet resign, has still been able to wipe out the Tory majority off the back of a 7 week campaign that Theresa May and Co thought they would piss just by telling the public who he was!

And the kicker is that they can't even seem to reach an agreement with a political party who are being called not just terrorist sympathisers (Corbyn), but actual terrorists! You couldn't write this shit!

Don't  forget the over 65s not being allowed to vote.

Really struggling to see why the over 65s are getting so defensive when their votes have given the largest party its seats at the recent election and their votes have seen the core of government policies being produced to target the grey vote for decades.

Not defensive just taking a jovial response to someone who posted that the O65s shouldn't be allowed to vote as their time is up.

I don't get defensive about politics and certainly not party politics I have a very cynical view of it all.

If you see my posts in these threads you'll see I'm apolitical 're parties and tend to draw focus to improved training as my main gripe.
