It was more an example of them players getting slated for being poor, yet when mahrez underperform it's simply down to the opposition numbering up on him, when the truth his he's shown no plan b to his game,

even now we're playing to our strengths and mahrez seems lost and uninterested, the bloke need to sort out his ego and remember he's not bigger than the club

Nah, he isn't uninterested. He is cool  :P

If we only take the last game, Mahrez was involved in all the three potent Leicester actions. An assist of Mahrez to Morgan thigh in a 16-round CL game is of historical proportions. Do these things get included in your stats? You would agree that you cannot be telling the whole story with these stats.

They are stats across the whole premier league season... I can do a champions league one as well if you wish.

Mahrez has been far more influential in the last two games. I wish it had been like all season because when he's in that form he rips people to bits.

All very well but the stats perhaps don't take into account how tightly and specifically Mahrez has been marked.

That said Mahrez hasn't looked nearly so dangerous this year and that's not been helped by a lot of his decision-making as to when to pass the ball and when to take people on.

Another factor for Gray in particular is that it's easier to create things against tiring defenders and easier to have a more successful pass rate when you're only on for a short time and at a time when he's fresh and his opponents are tiring or more focused on specifically defending or attacking according to the game situation.

For all that, the stats are interesting. Perhaps we'll get £40m bids each for Albrighton and Gray but refuse them on the basis they can have Mahrez instead!  :D

There are plenty of factors you have to take into account, but they are what they are.

If people say Albrightons stats have improved due to more space, I don't think that's correct as his numbers look similar to last year.

I think we're in danger of over playing the "he's double marked" stuff.

If Mahrez played like this every year we wouldn't get £40m bids for him either.

Leave him alone. What you're doing is nonsense.

You still getting wound up Matt ?! ...  Chill.   You ain't doing Mahrez or yourself any favours by leaping on anyone that criticises him.  The more you do that the more people react ...    Have a look round a few other threads ..   :)

Gray has 14 starts and 25 sub appearances in all competitions. Nobody can say he hasn't been given a chance.

For me Gray is too inconsistent to be starting next season as the replacement for Mahrez, but is a good impact sub. Whether he's happy to be an impact sub is another issue.

In 14 appearances as a starter he has:

1 goal - Derby Home

1 assist - Everton Fa Cup

Musa has 4 goals as a starter lol.

giving a player a chance isn't about the number of starts they get it's about how many they get in a row, wingers sometimes need 3 or 4 starts just to gel with the other players in the team, Gray rarely gets 3 starts in a row and lately rarely gets more than 10 mins per appearance.

As for Mahrez how about he shows us HE wants to stay?

Hey Countryfox, I really don't care anymore about the criticism. You make a good point about backlash from readers. However, I responded in this case because I have been quoted and for obvious reasons that I have no desire to get back to. But, don't you see that some people leap at anyone who says something positive about him? There are even who wish he goes to another club and fails !?  I would rather be on the side who likes a player than on the side who slags him, especially if that player has been such a good servant to the club. You gotta be fair, man. But my main point is this: I really like to watch him play. It gives me pleasure. I like eating cherries and wouldn't understand it if someone says cherries taste like $hite (maybe not a good analogy hein? .. don't laugh :sweating:). Maybe naively, I feel he would be even more spectacular if fans encourage him.

ps: don't worry, I'll keep it cool . It's summer after all.

I can see where you're coming from, but you have been particular sensitive about any criticism going his way in the past which I think is equally as wrong as slagging him off disproportionately.

He is a joy to watch when he's in good form and he can be really frustrating or meh to watch when he loses the ball x number of times in a row in our own half. There has a been much of the latter this season.

My point is this.  The more you dive in the more people respond which leads to a vicious circle and some tasty comments on both sides ...   normally ending in "Sell him he's a liability" just to REALLY wind you up.  As we know Riyad is a sensitive soul and lets say he reads this ...   he won't really notice the good comments but will see only the criticism.  It might fester.    As deep down we probably all, (well most anyway), want him to stay and recover his form, then perhaps it might be a good idea to reduce the arguing ...     just my opinion.   With some astute signings and Shakey at the wheel next season could be very exciting but we must try and hold onto our talent.

At the moment I think he is undecided about his future, he more than anyone took CR leaving badly as CR always backed him in internal arguments (so I've heard) and they had that 'Gentlemans agreement' bolox about leaving (which I don't agree with) ...    a lot depends on how Shakey handles this ...    time will tell.

What makes you say this? Surely, if anything, this season in the PL shows he has many things he needs to develop to be able to cope against consistently tough opponents. Don't see why he shouldn't be able to do that here.

2 things need to happen for him to continue to develop at Leicester, if 1 happens he can develop a bit more if both happen then I agree he could continue to develop 1) with upgrades in the team at RB & CM he would need to defend less, an would have a bit more space, as opposition would be more wary of those players also. I like DS as a RB but there's limitations there. 2) Mahrez's decision making needs to improve so when he's triple teamed he can pass to someone that's in space.

I agree that he needs more support from skillful players to get him out of sticky situations. But it's worth remembering where he's come from to where he is now. He has had a meteoric rise to stardom and in such a short space of time, it's difficult to adapt to constantly changing situations on the pitch. He's now a marked man, something he hasn't dealt with before to this extent and he can only develop his style by being in that situation.

Maybe he cannot adapt and he will be better served playing in a team where he focuses only on attacking. The flipside is that it limits his choice of destination as few teams are as strong as that and there are players out there that can attack just as well or better than him.
