We could show Mahrez we want him to stay

According to the Daily Mail Watford match report Mahrez is 'a jellied bundle of insecurity'.  Well that may or may not be the case...he is often the last out of the tunnel and often the first back in...but we could show him we love his football and we want him to stay.

Scmeichel knows, we sing his name at every opportunity, Huth and Fuchs know, even if it sounds to others that we're booing. Albrighton knows for sure, Kingy only has to run around for us to start, Vardy loves it...even Okazaki get a chant.

As far as I can remember Mahrez only got a regular chant when we shared it with Kante last season.  We could resurrect that chant (without the Kante bit:)). He got a few bars of it against Watford but no more.

We have two home matches to show one of the most gifted players we've seen in a long time that we at least, do not want him to move and if he does...we tried.

He does have his own song 'Riyad Mahrez' surprisingly is its title.

Only SK1 can be bothered to sing it like most other tunes - unless we are in the CL or in the process of winning the league.

That said I'd be happy to se him go after his miserable performances this season for a decent fee. (He was better 2nd half yesterday when he remembered passing the ball was a better option than constantly dribbling and getting dispossessed tbf).

If he wants to leave let him go I say, as he is far from irreplaceable based on the last nine months.

lol You actually thought we didn't have a chant for Mahrez?

Where do you sit?

Plastic armchair at a guess.

Still, can't believe people actually want him to leave or claim they aren't bothered. He's by far the most naturally gifted footballer we have, and by a long way. He needs to adapt better to being marked out of games, which has been his problem this season, but to want him to leave is just pure stupidity. Anyone notice how close Jamie and Shinji were to Marc all game yesterday, brought Mahrez the space he needs, and look how he profited.

The club is paying £100,000+ per WEEK to make him to stay and perform well in every game as he can do once his motivation is there.

The fans can chant his name, but that would only make him feel valued to just some extent.

I think his agent is trying to get him to move, unsettling him.

If he does move, feel it'd only be Barcelona as a destination for him as he's mentioned publically in the past that playing for Barca would be his ''dream''.

People will only know how influential a player is when he goes to pastures new. Guy gets hammered for not tracking back, not doing this, not doing that, then when he does weave his magic them same morons chant his name....

We will all realise the impact that Riyad Mahrez has on the team when he leaves.

We will live to regret the time he was playing under LCFC colors.

I agree with this and the Mahrez backlash is a bit appalling really.

Yes, he's not as effective as last year but I would go as far as saying he's the most naturally gifted player to have ever played for us (no doubt the football hipsters will disagree and say its Lloyd Dyer or some bloke who scored a hat trick against Luton Town in the 70s or something).

If you think Riyad doesn't track back and show any defensive responsibilities, take a look at players like ozil. I think one of the main reasons Riyad will leave is for a team that play higher possession stats where his life will be easier.

I didnt like his body body language yesterday in the five min period prior to his sub  and then when he went off. he clearly has issues.

I think frank was probably the most gifted player we ever had.

He is the most naturally gifted player we have, but that only gets you so far. It says a lot that he's so gifted, but is actually our weak link.

The doing too much and giving the ball away doesn't bother me really, it's the lack of effort and willingness to defend. If he doesn't want to put a shift in and work for his mates, forget him and cash in.

Shakey said in his post match conference that he's spoken to Riyad many times. Said that Riyad's "extremely self critical, feels that he's not scoring enough and that he should be scoring more"

SK3...perhaps I'm deaf, or you don't sing loud enough:blush:.

Or the ****ing clappers drown out most bloody songs and lyrics to anything. Time for the bin apart from maybe the family stand.

I don't think it's lack of effort and it's certainly not lack of talent. The problem this season has consistently been poor decision making, ie the same decision to run with it every single time. It makes him really really easy to defend, even given his many gifts.

If he passed before he absolutely had to once or twice a game a) we'd do better because his passing can be exquisite, and b) he'd have more joy running at people, because they wouldn't know what was coming.

It's worrying that all season long no one has been able to tell him that, because as many people above have said, he's supremely gifted, a nice guy and much harder working than he ever gets credit for...

Probably would never have won the league without this man, however this season he hasn't been great but the same could be said for most of the team.

Never get this he don't track back stuff you see it game in game out, people must be ****in blinded by the flair.

Clearly wants to be somewhere else next season so get the most we can and let him go if that what he wants, no point having a sulker at the club for another year.

Great talent and I hope he doesn't go but has been nowhere near his best this season.  When he gets the ball he slows things down and seems to wait for a couple of players to arrive and then try to dribble round them ...   the beauty of drawing in several opposing players is if you pass it at that point you have created space for others.  Imo he needs a bit of help on the training ground and his game will flourish.  Unfortunately at the moment, as Matt Elliott has pointed out, the gap between him starting and Gray starting is getting ever closer.   If we reach that point I think he will want to move on.

Wanting rid of Mahrez is a bit like wanting Brexit - you think there is a better way out there and howl until you get it and only when you eventually have it and it is worse than what you had before will you want to turn the clock back to the 'good old days'. It's why football fans and the electorate should never be listened to on anything important.....but sadly they are.

At last we agree! Tin hats on...
