Consider the track record of these guys... they'll want this to be a successful venture, they don't do failure.

Yeah, I think you're right moving forward. I just think the bulk buying of Ascot runners on the eve of the meet was more a way of being part of it all.

I'd recommend a trip to Aiden O'Brien's stables. He seems to win everything. ?

Funny how the colours are blue and white but they insist on blue and gold for us lol

Under BHA regulations there are only 18 set colours to choose from, but you can have any of these colours in any of the body, sleeve and cap designs listed below.

Gold isn't one of them!

It's aiden. Vincent (no relation) must have gone to meet his maker some time ago.

I know nothing about horse racing, but how is it that they've lost 2m? Surely the horses still hold a decent proportion of their value after finishing 'mid-table'?

If they went back in a sale next week probably be lucky to recoup 500-700 !!!

£2.5-3m was probably the purchase figure including Vat and commissions :nigel:

Yeah, but sooner or later they'll get it right and have a nice batch of 2 year olds. Be interesting to see how tomorrow's runner goes.

They haven't it's just morons on twitter. A bit like prats with players on here they write off a horse on its first outing rather than seeing how they get on with their new trainers and jockey etc.

It was none of their first outings lol

none of them were worth 50% of what was paid ... all over priced donkeys !!! Look at some of their original purchase prices ;)

And there is slightly worrying pattern between horse deals like this and some of our record spending recently ....

Islam , Musa and   Kramaric

too much money for fairly average players

but it's their money ... long may they enjoy it

I just hope they get a better director of football and bloodstock manager ... SOON !

And it does remind me of this sketch !!!!! Posted above !

They'll get better with more experience. But they'll drop a few clangers initially, just like they did with City (binning Pearson the first time, hiring Sousa, Sven).

Could be argued that Claudio was a huge stroke of luck .....

if year one was like year two for Claudio the clangers would still be going on

Without looking into too much detail I believe they have bought mainly mares at this sale which means they are looking to breed from them. This is a long term investment with a bit of fun at the start re ascot entries.

EDIT: the three ascot purchases were for 1.2 m and included one mare ( looks a good prospect for breeding from), one colt (which is a decent quality animal and could well earn his fee back over time and potentially go to stud)  and one gelding which does surprise me a little as can only earn his corn by winning races and he will need to improve a fair bit to manage that over the next few campaigns. a gelding will generally be kept racing for many years so perhaps they wanted a horse they could become attached to over the next few years on the track.

they have invested in a decent broodmare separately.

this looks like it has been done fairly strategically to give them fun now and investment for the future.

It's their first outing for them, the horses probably haven't even step foot in their yard yet. Let's see what happens long term in terms of breeding etc before declaring someone has lost £2m on the back of a single race for each horse.

They haven't got a racing yard lol

breeding ? most are gelded or will be .. none will ever be a stallion ... ever

for once Babylon it's a subject you know little about and that's not me being patronising that's just looking at your answers

long term I'll wager these horses will all be sold over next 2-3 years and they will recoup 5-10% of the outlay maybe less

they really have made a shocking start to racing .. and that will hurt they have spent 5m im told and won £25,000 lol and virtually devalued every horse

they need a better bloodstock advisor

and they need a better Director of Football

there is a direct link here ;)

Racing yard : they have already stated they will place all their horses with Andrew balding

Breeding: read the racing post article. They already bought an in foal mare who has an existing foal in tow.

The three horses purchased for ascot were overpaid for but they have an interesting decent three y o colt who has been placed in group company and a potential brrodmare. The gelding, as I said may well be just for some fun at a decent standard.

im not arguing that they may have over spent (where did 5m come from????) but your overall post is fairly patronising.

No guarantee of that at all, even some of the most knowledgeable people with connections to stables like Godolphin have struggled to make a profit and maintain a top batch of horses.

Coolmore and Aiden have the flat in these Isles almost tied up anyway, they are bonkers to get involved imho.

True that there's no guarantees, but they have the money and mindset to make a success of it if they want. I imagine the Polo background will help as well, because they'll know what a horse looks like!

Going with Andrew Balding as a starting point looks a shrewd early move and I notice they have a few horses in Irish stables as well, suggesting this isn't a passing fancy. Clearly they won't be troubling the likes of Coolmore yet, but if they get some nice horses just below top class level there's plenty of opportunity to farm some of the bigger handicaps or less prestigious listed races.

Seems like someone else did some research before commentary unlike Gaelic.
