Trump and May have further fuelled the idea that right wing ideology is inherently backwards when a more central than centre-right party would probably clean up at the next election. TBH I'm not sure how well adhering to a book written a couple of milennia ago (in whole or in part) for life choices lends itself to progressivism. 14 minutes ago, SMX11 said: I don't understand this at all. Trump and May are both centrists with very little thought or philosophy behind their positions. The Conservative party needs to be what is claims to be and someone at the head of it that can articulate why the left is wrong. Are you saying that Trump/Repubs are socially centrist? Not entirely sure what to make of that.

I'd hazard a guess we're talking about a very small number of women who are probably vulberable in a number of ways? I don't see any evidence of wholesale issues. I don't think you can base policy on tiny groups. You haven't said the size of the groups but i can imagine somebody in the clinic seeimg maybe 2/3 women regularly and commenting based on that but it isn't going to be big numbers surely? Bigger than you would think, I can't confirm any figures with any legitimacy though. I'm not saying abortion should be stopped mind, it just frustrates me that it's a necessary option, tragic really.

There is clearly a group of mps that believe in and want brexit but the vast majority don't really want it to happen but have no choice due to the referendum result. They have to go through with it but clearly they're trying to convince the public that they want it to happen when they really don't.

Guest Foxin_mad Posted 8 September 2017 Posted 8 September 2017 To be honest if they are his personal views then fair play to him for being honest about them on national TV and taking the stick. Better than the lefts cult hero Corbyn who pretends to be part of what ever minority is going to win him to most votes at any particular point in time.

Bobby Hundreds Posted 8 September 2017 Posted 8 September 2017 Gotta love that the people who are sticking up for JRM's right to express his beliefs are exactly the same people that would be f**king spewing if Sadiq Khan came out and said something oppressive about women (he hasn't).

Nick Posted 8 September 2017 Posted 8 September 2017 Who'd have ever thought that once getting to know JRM he'd turn out to be a right cvnt? 1

Even more hilarious would be watching all the people who are criticising Rees-Mogg for the same views then sticking up for Sadiq under some weird guise of tolerance.

But he hasn't, whereas JRM has. Moggy is a religious extremist and we shouldn't tolerate him.

In the last six months I've seen him in a turban, taking prayers at a mosque and now he's dabbling in a bit of holy communion. He's the worst iconoclast ever, more shameless than Tony Blair and Call me Dave.
Strokes Posted 8 September 2017 Posted 8 September 2017 Can someone explain why JRMs views have been described as sexist? I've seen and heard it a few times and I don't understand, I haven't heard the interview so might have missed something.

Shouldn't tolerate him? Do we execute everyone who holds a traditional religious view? I'm an atheist but given the choice I'll side with that lot rather than this new illiberal mob seeking to silence and expel from public life anyone who disagrees with them.

Not sure tbh - it may be related to him personally believing that a woman does not have the right to choose even if raped by a family member... which is lots of things and may perhaps too fall into the bracket of sexism due to biology and the notion/concept of rape?

Hmmm, I don't think that's sexist. If biology was reversed and his opinion would be different maybe but there is no direct comparison to claim sexism imo. He just believes the life created has a right too, how is that sexist?
