I worry about the quality and effectiveness of our recruitment

Initially some good signing, Maguire esp

But we shouldn't be in this position with a few days to go

There seems to be no plan B

Its also totally beyond me that there appears to be no interest in r/b cover

Is it any wonder when we're trying to keep the players we have. This is distracting for Rudkin and his team.

If we've learned anything this summer it's that when you identify targets, Get the Cheque Book out and just sign them. You might pay a little extra but it avoids what's going on now. You also have them settled before the league starts.

I'm not surprised with us not signing a RB, Simpson is playing very well and he just doesn't get injured. So no need to worry. We do have others who can step in if needed and do a decent job.

I think this is unfair given the current climate. Everyone is finding it hard to sign players because valuations are insane. It's coming down to the last few days of the window because it always does. All it takes is one club to get desperate and it triggers a chain reaction. PSG signing Mbappe means that Jovetic goes to Monaco which means... etc, etc.

Frankly I would be shocked if we kept all our players once the window is closed. And if we lose any, we'll have to replace them. Centre Back is a sore spot for most which I understand, but unlike last year it's clear we have been putting good bids in for players. It's just those bids aren't enough.

I agree with this. Get people in first and then worry about moving out others to balance the books. Even if we lose a little on sales that way round I think the advantages outweigh that. You get a settled and fit squad ready for the start of the season, and you send out a positive signal both to potential other buys but also to the players in your squad you want to keep. As it happens, prices seem to have risen during this preseason so another plus with buying in early.

We have been unlucky with the Icheanacho image rights situation, but the effect has been to make him a late buy, and the consequences of that alone have set us back a lot at this season start (imo).

Recruitment so far since he left seems to be OK.  Ndidi, Iheanacho, Maguire, Iborra to name a few.  I know we'd been looking at Maguire for the last 5 years, so it maybe a case of Shakey having a photocopy of Walsh's little black book!

A bit off topic in the transfer section, but I wonder how much we miss Walsh's tactical input during matches.

I think this is a really interesting question.  He seemed to have the view from the stands, and maybe we haven't replaced that? I do think that Shakey has a good tactical brain on him, and seems to learn. We've just had really tough games so far...

Maguire was Walshes from years ago, also we don't know how many of them players had been identified by Walsh in previous seasons as targets if any

They've been up his arse all summer, shows how fickle they are after losing a game. They sound worse than Leicester fans.

It would seem that the way of modern football fans is to criticise the DOF when the manager is fairly popular. Thank goodness that Leicester fans are too intelligent to follow suit....
