Missing Steve Walsh ?

Not the ex player for City but the ex talent spotter for City ?

Everton have obviously gone in to overdrive transfer wise

but are we just waiting for the right time to buy like most

other premier league clubs seem to be doing ?

Signing a shed load of players in one go never seems to work out really. I'd be extremely surprised if they got top 4 this coming season.

Yes we need players but a squad overhaul could backfire spectacularly.

I think we first need to see if Everton are any good next season to decide if their signings have made them a better side.

First of all he isn't with us, so therefore he is against us. He is actively working towards strengthening an opposing squad, we need to forget about him, he isn't god. Pretty sure he'd have had a hand in some crap we've signed in the past too.

talent spotter?

pickford - wow ! who knew how good he is

keane - cant believe we didn't try and sign the unknown centre half before

sandro ramires - everyone knows how good he is and a snip at 5 mill release clause.

klassen - didn't spot him last season  .......

these signings are hardly unknowns are they. the fact that everton have got them in reflect on the quality of their manager, their status in English football, their location (re keane) and their qualification for European football.

its not identifying the players that's our problem. its convincing those players that we can do it again re champions league qualification and doing the deal with the selling club.

My gut feeling is that one of the main reasons Walsh left was Claudio was taking over on the signings.

Would have Walsh targeted someone like Mendy ? Very much doubt it.

Still nowt we can do about it now.

We were already looking at Mendy before Ranieri came in, just as we were already looking at Slimani before Ranieri arrived.

How do you know ? Do you know them personally ?

Anyway I doubt we'll find another one that can spot the potential of the likes of Mahrez, Vardy and Kante

Why do you doubt it?

I doubt we'll ever see that luck/scope for potential on such a scale ever again. Highly unlikely to see a team buying a player for 300k and then go and win the league 2 years or so later with him being a key player and winning the player of the year!

He scouted some great players for us. Didn't he also recommend Amartey, Musa and the Spanish fella who went back?

He ain't infallible then is he?

he was chief scout here basically he found the player he didn't do the deals and that's the bit where we seem to be slow

Blimey, it's as if we never made any transfers before Steve Walsh!

Back in the Walsh days I can remember a half decent out of contract free transfer signing in the form of Cambiasso.

Any news on the one you told us would be joining us?

It's not just about someone being unheard of, its knowing the exact right player to fit the style and tactics that the manager wants and for them to also compliment the existing players' skillset. having the right character is also something that is important to Walsh...

Presumably Lukaku and Barkley will be going to pay for these transfers.

Will be interesting to see the nett spend end August. Assuming he does leave,  I suspect Everton's spending of the fee will be a better effort than Spurs with bale!

They've made some good signing yes, but let's be honest Keane and Pickford didn't exactly need a lot of scouting....

Klassen again had a good europa league, the only one that wasn't exactly well known is the guy from Malaga.

Everyone new about Vardy, we were just the club that took the plunge but plenty have come out of the woodwork saying that they looked at him and cursed the fact that they didn't sign him when they had the chance.  West Ham were in for Kante as were Marseilles and Mahrez was a an 'accident' when he went to look at a different Le Havre player.

He was good and will be missed but his more recent record for us was terrible as we all know.
