Missing Steve Walsh ?

Not really. For every gem he unearthed there was an equal dud.

Looking at him pulling the strings at Everton its clear to see our transfer situation is a complete fiasco run by two dimwits who have not got a clue.

i get the impression that Koeman isnt fully behind the set at Everton, and a couple of transfer flops and walsh will be out..oh controversial...

Yes I think Walsh may have jumped from the Pan into the Fire.

He wasn't a Koeman appointment and so there's a friction there. Probably because Koeman wants to select his own targets.

I suspect it may come to a head with a shortage of Goals when Lukaku leaves.

I'm a big fan of Walsh but I could've probably found any of those five if it was my job. Pickford & Keane hardly takes genius scouting, Sandro and Klaassen are both quite well known on the continent. The Belgian kid is the least obvious one but a 19 year old golden boot winner of a league that churns out quality youngsters. You'd be mad to not scout that.

There are very few genuine gems these days I think. Very few that nobody has heard of. Mahrez is one of the best really.

My gut feeling is that one of the main reasons Walsh left was Claudio was taking over on the signings.

Would have Walsh targeted someone like Mendy ? Very much doubt it.

Still nowt we can do about it now.

Or he was offered a better job on more money at a traditionally bigger club, with more pulling power in the transfer market.

He wasn't perfect by any means but on the face of it he seems a lot better than the scouting regime we have now.

Anyway as stated above it's still early days and lets hope we are all a lot happier come 1 September.

He scouted some great players for us. Didn't he also recommend Amartey, Musa and the Spanish fella who went back?

He ain't infallible then is he?

No-one is Col, even O'Neill signed duds from time to time. Sometimes talented players just don't gel or develop.

Koeman's happy to coach. At Southampton, he wasn't calling the transfer shots.

For someone who only coaches, he had a lot to say about recruitment in January.

Yeah a failure to bring anyone in rather than the actual players

I agree with everything you said there but that still looks like excellent business by Walsh.

Pickford and Keane could well be amongst the best players in the league in their positions in the next year or two. Klassen was rated as one of the best players in Holland, Sandro was a steal and they'll make money on him even if he's a total flop here and signing the best young teenagers from places like Belgium won't send you far wrong.

Compare that with our business and we've signed Maguire because we couldn't get Keane as Everton have leapfrogged us in the last year. We're probably only signing Iborra because he was offered to us and a rehash of Walsh's ex targets in Deeney. Everton are widening the gap again between them and ourselves.

And you know for a fact that is the reason we signed Maguire?  If Maguire had gone to Everton you'd be on here fawning over Steve Walsh like a jilted ex-lover saying how he'd got one over us again.  And you think that Iborra will turn out to be a worse signing than those of Everton, why?  And I thought one of our strengths under the one-and-only Steve Walsh was our long-term scouting of transfer targets.  So if that s why we have gone back in for Deeney, why is that now a bad thing when it was a good thing under Walsh?

The spoilt brat from Big Ron Manager, is scouting for us!? Yeah your right things have changed since Steve Walsh left... for the worse.

Ex professional international footballer scouting for professional football team ..... My God, what a disgrace, we're doomed!

Of course it's all supposition but I rate Keane higher than Maguire and i think most people in football do.

I'd bet good money the most likely reason we never went back in for Keane was because we were told he wasn't interested as he had better options. Maguire wouldn't have been our first choice.

I've been over my reasons why I think Iborra will be an average signing for us as I think he will mainly be used as a substitute as he isn't athletic enough to replace Ndidi or Drinkwater. I suspect the reason we're signing him is because we were offered him and not because we have pursued him. Signing a 29 year old squad player from Sevilla who they actively seeked out to sell and who almost signed for Sunderland last season doesn't inspire me with confidence.

I think if we had spent £30 million on Pickford this summer and £30 million on Keane last year, there would have been a lot of Leicester fans moaning that Walsh would have got a better option for cheaper if he was still with us. He's gone, we still have his scouts though and we are still uncovering gems like Ndidi. Keep the faith.

I think Walsh is a world class scout at finding players who can get you out of the championship or if you're in a lowly premier league position, but anything above that he really struggles at finding quality players

So Zola, Drogba, Vardy, Kante, Mahrez aren't quality players?

Tbf just because he was scouted by Walsh at a time he was playing well and on the verge of an England call up, doesn't mean he would be now.

Deeny form/ stock has fallen dramatically since.

I think 'missing Steve Walsh' also means his personality.

Not only was Walsh a great scout, but it was his mere presence, apparently, that players liked. He is a calmer, I believe, a great bloke to have around the club.

Im convinced we missed all that last season.
