Loan Watch 2017/18

Recommended Posts

Ahmed Musa delivered a match-winning performance to wrap up his loan spell with CSKA Moscow in their 2-1 victory over Anzhi Makhachkala in their final game of the 2017-18 Russian Premier League season.

The on-loan Leicester City forward was coming off an impressive display in his side's 6-0 mauling of Arsenal Tula last week, scoring twice. And he continued in such vein as he registered a goal before laying on the winner for Vitinho.

With only nine minutes gone at the VEB Arena, the 25-year-old put his side ahead, but Arsen Khubulov's strike in the 33rd minute ensured both sides went into the break levelled. Just after the hour mark, Musa provided Vitinho with the all-important winner for strike partner Vitinho.

With that performance, Musa who was rated MOTM from the encounter by statistical website, whoscored with a 7.67 rating has had a hand in ten goals (seven goals, three assists) from 16 outings in all competitions for the club.

Wrapping up past week's events:

OH Leuven can no longer aspire to Europa League places, as they lost their second consecutive playoff game, this time 2-1 at home against Zulte Waregem, the best team in both playoff groups with now 25 points. Elliott Moore was captain once more. Next and last match is on Friday, away at Mouscron.

Callum Elder's season with League One winners Wigan Athletic is over, and he now returns a Leicester City player - he has one more year on his contract.

Bartosz Kapustka hasn't featured for SC Freiburg for weeks now. With the Bundesliga season over and Freiburg safe, a return to Belvoir Drive is imminent, his future uncertain.

Nampalys Mendy continues to lead a life of an expensive bench player for OGC Nice - no minutes for Nampalys again, this time in a 4-1 home win against relegation-threatened SM Caen. Final match of the season on Saturday, away at Olympique Lyonnais.

I suppose Islam Slimani has already returned to Belvoir Drive two weeks ago, since the start of his three-match ban. Decisive summer ahead for him, too. Will the club want to keep him?

Ahmed Musa newsflash: A goal and an assist in a 2-1 home win against Anzhi Makhachkala.

(Musa's goal)

The assist for Vitinho's goal to make it 2-1.

Leonardo Ulloa: Scored the equalizer against Manchester City during last week (see post above), then an unused substitute for Brighton in a 4-0 away loss at Liverpool this past weekend. Where will his path lead him to now? I can't see him returning to Leicester for next season, he could switch to another Premier League club, go to Spain or even return to Argentina. What is clear though is that the Seagulls have an option to buy him.
Bit of a sad day for Andy King and Swansea City - ultimately relegated to the Championship on the final day of the season, even though King scored his second (and presumably last) goal for the Swans in a 2-1 home loss against Stoke, this after a neat one-two with André Ayew. Substituted in the 58th minute. Just days before, he was part of a Swansea squad that fell to Southampton at home (82 minutes for King on the pitch then).
Will he want to stay at Leicester, do the club still see something in him or will we part ways for sure now this summer?
Hard pill to swallow for Raul Uche and Real Betis B, as they lost 5-0 away at Extremadura. Uche was taken off the pitch at half-time, with Betis already 4-0 down...
