King was man of the match against Man City today. Ran the midfield. Shame his teammates couldn't live up to the standards he sets.

He's too good for Swansea. I'd say he's about on the level of a Leicester City myself.

Elder Earns Promotion With Wigan

LOANS

Published 1 hr 9 mins ago

2 MinutesReading time

Callum Elder’s loan spell at Wigan Athletic hit new heights over the weekend as he helped them seal promotion to the Sky Bet Championship.

- Callum Elder celebrates promotion from League 1 with Wigan Athletic
- The Latics beat Fleetwood Town 4-0 on Saturday to seal a return to the Championship
- Ahmed Musa scored twice in 12 second-half minutes to help CSKA Moscow move up to second in the Russian Premier League
- Andy King, Elliott Moore and Raul Uche Rubio also featured this weekend

Elder, 23, has spent the 2017/18 campaign on loan at the Latics, amassing 30 appearances in all competitions.

On Saturday, the left back notched up another 90 minutes for Wigan, who cruised to a 4-0 triumph at Fleetwood Town to secure a return to the second tier of English football.

Elder has been part of many memorable wins for Paul Cook’s men, including a 1-0 victory over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round.

Another loan star who experienced an enjoyable weekend was forward Ahmed Musa, whose late brace earned CSKA Moscow a 2-1 win over FK Krasnodar.

The Nigeria international has now scored three goals in his last three appearances for the Russian outfit, who sit second in the Russian Premier League table.

Elliott Moore, meanwhile, continued his productive spell on loan at Belgian outfit Oud-Heverlee Leuven, completing 90 minutes in their clash with Royal Excel Mouscron.

The young defender captained Nigel Pearson’s men to a 3-1 Play-Off 2 win at King Power at Den Dreef Stadion on Saturday.

A day later, Wales international midfielder Andy King made his seventh Premier League appearance for Swansea City.

Carlos Carvalhal’s outfit were heavily beaten, though, as the 2017/18 Premier League champions celebrated their recent title triumph with a 5-0 success at Etihad Stadium.

The Academy graduate played the full 90 minutes at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Spanish youngster Raul Uche Rubio also featured this weekend, but he could not prevent Real Betis B from losing 1-2 to FC Cartagena.

Algeria international Islam Slimani, meanwhile, will be aiming to help Newcastle United beat Everton at Goodison Park on Monday 23 April.

Nampalys Mendy (OGC Nice), Leonardo Ulloa (Brighton & Hove Albion) and Bartosz Kapustka (SC Freiburg) were not in action this weekend.

Just a quick update in addition to @davieG's post:

In addition to playing yet another 90 minutes for OH Leuven in a 3-1 win against Mouscron on the weekend, Elliott Moore captained his side on Tuesday against Kortrijk also, earning himself a yellow card in a 2-1 away defeat. Next game is this Saturday, as the return phase in the Playoffs II begins with a home game against Waasland-Beveren, a side Leuven beat 2-0 two weeks ago.

Callum Elder and Wigan Athletic are promoted to the Championship. Congratulations. :appl:

Callum smack in the middle. :D

First one out of the last three league matches is tomorrow, away at Bristol City.

Bartosz Kapustka keeps losing out on a place on the bench at SC Freiburg again. Not in the squad for the 1-0 away defeat at Hamburg, a win that gives HSV a glimmer of hope in the quest to remain the only team ever in the Bundesliga for 55 years straight, since the league was created in 1963.

Nampalys Mendy keeps popping up on the bench for OGC Nice again, but hasn't gotten any minutes under his belt in the past two matches. Nice manager Lucien Favre again just brought on two substitutes, this time in a 1-0 win against Montpellier on the weekend.

Islam Slimani in action for Newcastle tonight, starting against Everton.

Ahmed Musa newsflash: Two assists against Amkar Perm last Wednesday, followed by the two aforementioned goals against Kuban Krasnodar.

https://en.pfc-cska.com/media/cska-tv/pfk-cska-amkar-30-vitino-44-10/ (nice backheel assist for Vitinho's goal)

https://en.pfc-cska.com/media/cska-tv/pfk-cska-amkar-30-chalov-45-20/ (beating his opponent on the left win, ball into the box and for Chalov to convert from close range)

Cracking first goal against Krasnodar:

Followed by a working man's effort in the box, proper striker-style:

Another substitution appearance for Leonardo Ulloa at Brighton, coming on for Glenn Murray in the 74th minute against Tottenham at home, with the score already final at 1-1.

Nothing to boast about for Andy King on the weekend, as Swansea fell victim to a 5-0 away defeat at the hands of the champions Manchester City. At least King was able to play all the way through once more.

Following four straight draws in the Segunda Division B Group 4, Raul Uche and Réal Betis B lost 2-1 at home to Cartagena, with Uche featuring for the whole match.

Here are the highlights:

It is good to keep an eye on our loan players but I doubt any Of them will play for our 1st team again  with the exception of maybe Elliot Moore. The rest need moving on both for their own careers and so we can bring in better players.

Agree Stan.  I think I could have scored them with that much time and space!

Catching up from last weekend's action:

Elliott Moore missed a game for OH Leuven for the first time since a short injury spell in late February, as OH Leuven could only manage a goalless draw against Waasland-Beveren last weekend. I couldn't find any indication as to what happened. He's not injured, though - starting tonight for Leuven in the away match at Lierse, a 2-2 draw.

Apart from promotion to the Championship a few weeks ago, Callum Elder and Wigan Athletic have also managed to win the League One title ahead of Blackburn with 98 to 96 points. Title secured with a 1-0 away win at Doncaster today, following two 1-1 draws against Bristol Rovers and Wimbledon (Callum played the full 270 minutes). Congrats! :appl:

Bartosz Kapustka: Neither in SC Freiburg's squad for the vital 3-2 home win against now-relegated 1.FC Köln last weekend, nor in the 3-1 away loss today at Borussia Mönchengladbach. I can but assume Freiburg manager Streich not rating Kapustka as good enough to be a part of a squad that is still struggling for league survival, going into the last day of the season. Last match is at home against Augsburg on Saturday, where Freiburg need a single point to stay in the Bundesliga.

Again, no match practice and only bench practice for Nampalys Mendy at OGC Nice - this after a 1-1 draw away at Strasbourg this past weekend. Next game for Nice: Tomorrow evening, away at Marseille.

Islam Slimani's season on loan at Newcastle is over, as he was handed a three-match ban for a kicking incident with West Brom defender Craig Dawson last weekend, a game the Magpies lost 1-0.

Ahmed Musa was on the pitch for CSKA Moscow again, and played all 90 minutes in a goalless draw away at Zenit St. Petersburg last Sunday. CSKA host Arsenal Tula tomorrow evening, so there's a big chance he'll find the net once more.

Leonardo Ulloa started for Brighton away at Burnley last weekend, but was rather ineffective as a striker, with only one touch in the Burnley box. Subbed in the 67th minute for Glenn Murray. Came on as a late, late substitute in extra time against Manchester United yesterday Friday, with Brighton holding out for a famous 1-0 win at the AMEX, their first league win against United in 36 years.

Things are looking a bit bleak for Andy King at Swansea, as they have now lost by 1-0 twice in succession, once at home against Chelsea (King taken off for Dyer after 58 minutes), now today away at Bournemouth (King on for van der Hoorn after 72 minutes), in a game where Swansea only managed three shots on goal. Coupled with Southampton's draw at Everton today, that puts the Swans into the bottom three. Wednesday's home match against Southampton will be a tasty affair, as neither team will want to lose.

After beating Murcia 1-0 away from home, with Raul Uche as an unused substitute, Réal Betis B's schedule continues this weekend, with a match tomorrow Sunday, at home against Badajoz (lunchtime kick-off).

Given we don't offload him surely Callum Elder stays at Leicester next season.

Had a decent spell at Wigan and is exactly everything we're crying out for right now.

Seriously? It was in league 1 ffs

I wonder how Wigan would compare against Le Havre?   With the defense we have at the moment, maybe we should at least take a look at him?

He was at Brentford before Wigan. - couldn’t get more than the odd game there. My mate said he wasn’t impressed

Two goals for Ahmed Musa yesterday in a 6-0 thrashing of Arsenal Tula at home in Moscow. CSKA were 5-0 up at half-time - special mention to young Russian striker Fedor Chalov, who scored a hattrick and gave two assists.

Musa's first goal came after converting from close range inside the box to make it 2-0, then scored the sixth and last in the 49th minute, bursting into the box from the left-hand side:

Nampalys Mendy's best friend these days is the bench: Again no match practice for the midfielder, as OGC Nice lost 2-1 away at Marseille yesterday.

Raul Uche started for Real Betis B in the home game against Badajoz yesterday, and scored their second goal in a 3-1 win. Highlights video hopefully to follow later.

That was a year, a year and a half ago - things have changed for the better in my opinion. Including a harder spell around the end of 2017/start of 2018, Elder's wrapped up 25 league games for Wigan this season, scored in the FA Cup against Bournemouth and has been a very reliable part of a solid back four. Personally, I think he's matured into a steady left-back with potential still.

The question I have is whether he'd be happy playing second fiddle back at Leicester.

No idea if Elder is any good at our level but he is 23 now so unless he is outstanding at Wigan he'll probably be a reserve player at best here.

Nice to see Musa here as I don't want him back under any circumstances, I'm just hoping we can cut our losses.
