She's uninspiring and overly cautious, I agree. But in Leicester manager terms, she's more Claude Puel than Peter Taylor.

I'd argue that, in my lifetime, Norman Lamont, Jeremy Hunt and George Osborne were all worse.

Plus of course Kwarteng was so terrible he's in a tier all of his own.

She is Avram Grant at its best.  No CV to show she can do the the job.  So.e nut job gives her the job and the rest is history

Bring back some Brown.

If Labour don't have him kicking around as an economic advisor in some capacity, they're missing a trick. The best chancellor of the past 25 years, and it isn't even close.

She's bang average. Not outstandingly good, not outstandingly bad.

Not sure Reeves would let me wipe it on the curtains.

For my money, Rachel Reeves is doing the unpopular things and will end up getting thrown to the wolves so the next chancellor can step in and do more popular things before the next election. I think Labour will try to keep her in place for as long as possible so the next person can hit the ground running.

I wouldn’t be surprised if my local MP Jeevun Sandher got his hands on the role eventually. He seems that way minded.

hhhhmmmmm - He was chancellor for 38 days

She's been chancellor for 8 months and has resided over a total shit show

Erasing him from history is still quite ridiculous. Fair enough it's the unpopular opinions thread.

She has been shit though. Also unrelated to her capability but how tf has she accepted tickets to see Sabrina Carpenter? How do any politicians accept these gifts? What is wrong with them haha?

You can't erase Kwasi Kwarteng but just because he was shite does not mean Rachel Reeves is not as dodgy as **** and as useless as a concrete parachute.

Your point was she was the worst in the last 20 years (or something) wasn't it?

Sad but inevitable reading. European states have taken advantage of a long period of peacetime to build up huge and very generous welfare states with all the excess money. That's gonna have to change soon with more investment needed in defence in a wartime era coz my generation sure as sh1t isn't gonna bare arms to keep the boomers in their comfortable state of living. Part of the gradual decline I guess.

Literally a waste of time criticising the govt or the chancellor on this forum, you will just have the ''but but but look what the Tories did...14 years...£22bn black hole''...fill in the blanks

Starmer is doing better than he did for the first 6 months, but it's all going to hinge on how Ukraine plays out.

Rachel from accounts is completely useless and we will see by Weds lunch time how the budget isn't playing out as expected, like the critics and experts said at the time. She's toast

I like the Claude Puel analogy but I'd have her as RVFN and Kwasi as McClintock

For my money, she's been firmly midtable. She's inherited a poor situation and has neither made it significantly better nor significantly worse.

The right-wing press would have you think she's the worst chancellor in history, completely unqualified and destroying everything we've all worked for. The 'Rachel from Accounts' line, in addition, isn't just boring and tired, it's tinged with misogyny as well. But then you'd expect little else from someone like 30p Lee Anderson, who's so dense that light bends around him.

Other than the gold selling bit.

That was a numpty move and he gets a bit of a black mark for that.

Even as a conservative supporter, I can appreciate that he did a decent job. Maybe that’s more that fact I’m maybe centre right though, which is where you’d argue maybe Blair was.

There were plenty of economists backing his decision at the time.
It wasn’t even that devastating to the economy (in comparison), although it’s become a right wing go to when talking economic policy.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing…

Small beer too compared to flogging the oil and gas to private funds compared to going the Norwegian route with a wealth fund.

I guess such things are subjective, as a lot of things are.

Which brings it back to the policy platforms of such individuals and how they're applied, which can often be much more objective.

Technically, he's 24p Lee nowadays as he's lost 20% of his MPs and therefore value.

It depends on what you think is more embarrassing - having highly coveted jobs in both retail banking and the BoE or telling the poorest people in society to get by on £2.10 a week or be told they're shit at budgeting and don't deserve help.

Well neither.  I was commenting on the fact you were crying about folks calling one MP a nickname whilst going on to call another MP a nickname in the same post. Which clearly went straight over your head.
