I'm genuinely curious to understand who is being given a car and for what reason. Because frankly this sounds like some sort of daily m*il headline.

The Government have removed 'premium ' cars from disability entitlement so you can't really get the likes of Audi's etc anymore.

 

Jaecoo are the go to mobility vehicle now which is why you see a lot of them - driven by particular individuals...

 

I also have a friend who's partner has it via this route, with basically nothing wrong with her.

 

I also know of many other people.

 

Its no shocking news, probably just something you've never thought of before.

It also comes down to the brand massively pushing themselves into the mobility sector and its a lot of car for the money now that people can't get their 'premium brands'.

 

Its an observation as much as anything but there is fact to back it up.

With Motability you don't get a car for free. They take away the mobility part of your PIP monthly payment which is around £300 p/m if you get the full amount. 

 

I know this because I've been looking at a motability car for my mum soon. Even with that £300 p/m you're only talking about a new Kia Picanto or medium hatchback. Any bigger or better cars and you have to pay an extra fee on top for the 3 year term. 

 

However you do also get all your tax, MOT, servicing and insurance sorted for you on top which makes it a good deal.

Nah, my sis-in-law has an electric Skoda, similar in style. There's no physical disorders in the family and any reliable car would do.

Fair enough.

 

I won't argue with your experience, it's not something I've encountered before as you allude to. I've seen plenty of Jaecoos but never noticed any sort of trend in terms of drivers.

 

I know someone who recently got a car from some sort of allowance but she has severe cerebral palsy, lives in a care home and it is genuinely very significant for her lifestyle and being able to see her family. I was a bit surprised honestly and I am amazed that there are people getting cars when there is nothing wrong with them, but I am inclined with these types of things to think that anecdotal experience whilst valid is not necessary reflecti e of society as a whole.

 

Maybe that's naivety/wishful thinking.

I remember receiving a new referral once when I worked for ASC. During our initial meeting/assessment, she asked me if I could look into getting her a mobility scooter.

Looking into her needs, it certainly looked like she would qualify.

But then it came to my attention that she already had a mobility car. When I pointed this out she said, 'Oh my daughter uses that.'

Her daughter was fully ambulant.

There's a lot of bot accounts on there these days that have their accounts locked too.

 

Meta doesn't care because engagement with the ones spewing bigoted bollocks gets clicks, which gets ad revenue, which gets profit. As far as I know, their entire moderation process is automated these days.

I think people get riled up by what other people are getting (whether it be mobility cars, benefits, teacher's holidays, public sector pensions etc) because they're told that it comes out of their taxes, c which isn't exactly true or how taxation works.

All of the above things are good for the real economy and are beneficial to local businesses, employment etc.
