Did Puel just find a way to play well without Okazaki?

I can't believe it took 3 manager's to realise that you can actually play football without having a nutter running around smiling at everyone.

Bit harsh lol

Okazaki should be a decent squad player but you are right in that it's crazy how overly reliant we are on a guy who doesn't create chances, doesn't score, doesn't assist.

If we want to move away from this rigid safety first 442 then Okazaki should not be a first team player, he should be an impact player.

Right. Here's something called 'evidence' for you.

*doesn't score anywhere near as much as he should.

15/16 - 5 goals

16^17 - 3 goals

17/18 - 4 goals so far.

1 (yes one) assist in nearly two and a half years. We should expect more productivity from our second striker/attacking midfielder other than "hard work" and smiles.

Seems more reasonable, but absolutely no idea why him smiling causes you such grief.

It doesn't tbh. But some people on here seemingly judge our players on whether they smile or not (Gray & Okazaki).

So much heart, so little ability

yes,yes,yes

same applies for Shinji

calling them what they are is taken as offense most of the time

but the truth is,they are past of the club

next season none of them will be main players

We looked good yesterday for 30 minutes out of the 90...

And got VERY lucky with the Fuchs tackle that was a stonewall penalty. If they'd got back in it at that stage the outcome may have been very different!

I think Okazaki will still play a vital role in a lot of games. Chilwell and Gray had good games yesterday but we were at home against a team in desperately poor form.

Don't think you can read too much into that one game in isolation.

Worth reposting from page 1.

We played one home game against pretty poor opposition and were a bit lucky.  I thought Puel also admitted that he wanted to see the team first so consciously let Appleton have the decision over the team

I tend to judge them on whether they had a massive, massive impact on our title winning season and whether, on the whole, the team plays better or worse without them.  Okazaki has been a phenomenal signing for us, it would be churlish to argue otherwise.  X

Haha it was (using the past tense in the hope that those days are now gone) mental how much better we looked with Shinji when playing our brand of "football" over the past 18-20 months.

I just can't believe it took getting rid of 2 managers before someone had the nouse to maybe mix it up and not rely on someone having to try and force mistakes rather than trying to actually create stuff ourselves.
