Former Monaco midfielder and latest manager of Leicester City, Frenchman Claude Puel has an estimated net worth of over £5 million (The Sun, Msn.com & Sportune.com)

Born in Castres, Tarn (in the Occitania region of southern France) on September 2, 1961, Claude Puel began playing football with Castres FC. In 1977, he joined AS Monaco’s training centre after being lured by their scouts and played his first professional match in 1979-80.

Puel spent his whole career playing midfield at Monaco, totaling 601 official matches, including seven years under the coaching auspices of his more famous compatriot Arsène Wenger.

His triumphs with Monaco include two Ligue 1 Championships (1981-82 and 1987-88), three Coupe de France titles (1980, 1985 and 1991), one Trophée des Champions (1985) and a runners-up at the 1992 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.

After retiring as a player, Puel stayed on at Monaco as the physical trainer and manager of Monaco’s reserve team before being made the manager of the main side in January 1999.

As manager, he led Monaco to two championship triumphs—the 1999-2000 Ligue 1 and the 2000 Trophée des Champions—alongside a runners-up at the 2001 Coupe de la Ligue. Puel left Monaco in July 2001 following non-renewal of his contract. He had spent 24 years at the club as a player and a manager.

Puel then became manager of Lille in July 2002, staying there for six successive seasons (one of the longest stints in the French League).

In June 2008, he was appointed manager of Olympique Lyonnais after signing a four-year deal with the seven-time French champions. The fourth manager in four years for Lyon, Puel steered the club to the Champions League semi-final, in 2010—first time in Lyon’s history. However, in June 2011, his contract was terminated.

He joined OGC Nice in May 2012, on a three-year deal.

After completing his Nice contract, he struck a £3-million-per-annum deal with Southampton in June 2016 for another three years, replacing Dutchman Ronald Koeman, but his contract was terminated in June 2017. Nevertheless, in that one season Puel helped “The Saints” achieve runners-up position in the English Football League (EFL) Cup in 2016-17 and a respectable eighth position on the Premier League table. In October 2017, Puel replaced Craig Shakespeare as Leicester City manager on yet another three-year contract, reported to be £2 million per annum. The deal ends in June 2020. (The Sun)

Is the maths correct? His sotton contract was worth 9m alone. So did he never earn anything anywhere else.

Spent the whole lot in casinos in the French Riviera
