Seem to remember a Jose rumour immediately after the closing of the Summer transfer window doing a good job on unsettling Drinkwater just before we played them on the 24th Sept 2016 it finished 4-1 to them...didn't need to do it given we were s#it at the time, so yes, I subscribe to the conspiracy theory (love a good 'un):

Most people laughed this off but it looks as though as I predicted, Mahrez will not be playing against Man City. Whether it was an innocent bid or whether there were thoughts of disrupting the player prior to this match, the fact remains that due entirely to this very last minute bid, Mahrez is unavailable and we’ve lost our most potent weapon. For me Pep is well versed in the dark arts. Last week he put only 6 on the bench even though there were players available who hadn’t played any minutes in the u23 game. This was to make a point that his players are being targeted with fouls. He’s a top coach and at the top level it’s all about looking at additional ‘marginal gains’. By getting refs to be harsher against opposition players fouling his team and also by unsettlingly key opposition players Pep is encouraging these ‘marginal gains’ that may help Man City win the league earlier and allow them to rest players and focus on The Champions League.
