Think 2-1 Switzerland but Hope Costa Rica get something from this, even a goal.

Was there last month for a fortnight, the country is amazing and people are really friendly. For a small country they are football mad and were very excited about the world cup so it's a bit disappointing their 2 games were at 5am local time and they are out already.

Despite the two losses, Costa Rica have shown they are a good team, a collective, a unit.

The Serbia game decided by a moment of genius from Kolarov, and Brazil only beat these with two very late goals.

We don't have that particular player quality on our side, so I'm expecting a tough game with a narrow result. Wouldn't surprise me if we drew, Costa Rica are very hard to break down, so it'll be a matter of patience.

A win for the lads in red and white would be grand, of course.

Rubbish. Love him or loathe him, Shaqiri is as capable of genius as anyone in World football.

The danger is that Costa Rica throw the shackles off now. Not sure Switzerland are ever going to score a barrowload so resolute defence will be essential. Fortunately for you and the team, that's an area where they are strong.

I think Shaqiri is rather one-dimensional in his play - put him on the right, he'll cut inside and try to score from a distance. Put him in the centre, and he'll still try to shoot from distance, just distribute the ball more often.

You'll find it hard to spot Shaqiri getting all too close to the Costa Rica goalkeeper tonight. I can't recall having seen him score from close distance all too often in recent months (maybe the header lol inside the box against Bournemouth aside).

For tonight's game, I expect more coming from Zuber on the left, Seferovic/Gavranovic/Drmic in the middle up front or Dzemaili or Behrami in midfield. Our strikers in particular have been woeful for quite a while, that has to stop.

There's talks that Petkovic could be looking at benching Behrami, Lichtsteiner, Shaqiri and Schär in order to avoid potential suspensions for the Best Of 16 match.

Exceptions prove the rule.

Like I said, you're not going to see Shaqiri inside the opposing box too often.

I'd estimate that he scored three quarters of his goals total in the national team by cutting inside from the right, shooting from distance/outside the box or by free-kick.

Yeah, who needs someone who can do that in the team? Bin him.

He's netted a total of three goals since EURO 2016. Not getting my hopes up too high. :D

Of course, I'll be happy should he score a cracker tonight.

Gavranovic and Embolo to start up front, together with Shaqiri. Behrami, Dzemaili and Xhaka in midfield.

Lichtsteiner, Akanji, Schär and Rodriguez the back four.

Full strength it is.

No gifts for Costa Rica!

Phew.... Put under enormeous pressure by Costa Rica at the beginning, a couple of brilliant chances and we can count ourselves lucky not to be 2-0 behind...

The Dzemaili goal has helped massively, allowing us to take more and more control of the game.

Still need a second to put these away.
