Did I mention I do garage doors?

Never mind garage doors, we still haven’t discussed my commission.

50/50 if you break into a few more properties to try and drum up business. Spread them out a bit though mate as we don’t want to arouse suspicion.

I had a friend that chucked a fag butt down the side of my mates neighbours garage, set fire to it and who was employed to rebuild it.... his dad.

That’s a funny coincidence, I bet they all laugh about it now?

Wow lol

Did they finish the job, or does he need a garage door?

I didn’t realise you were serious about the garage doors.

All I need now is someone to build me a garage.

I wasn’t being serious but it seemed a good opportunity lol

My good friend does do all types of entrance doors though, if you ever need a recommendation.

Wireless intruder systems are excellent these days but don’t be be seduced by low end options.

Best bet for intruder system for price and functionality is Pyronix Enforcer. You can buy a full kit from ADI Gardiner’s in Leicester for under £500, it has WiFi and an app to let you know instantly if you’ve had an activation. I’d happily install it for a price or you can probably about manage it yourself (it’s not that difficult).

CCTV can provide peace of mind too but that’s a wee bit more expensive, your looking at about £1200 for a 4 camera system with remote viewing.

Had a quick look but there is a huge amount of kit. What would I need to actually buy? Do you need sensors on all doors/windows? A control panel?

Depends on your personal requirements, do you have any pets loose in the house?

Normal spec is sensor in each ground floor room plus one on the landing, all doors contacted, a panel, a bell and a WiFi card.

Got two dogs, but they are generally contained to one room at night or when we go out.

Thanks for the pointers mate

Be aware that if you have a burglar alarm, insurance companies insist that it must be switched on every time you leave the house. Even if it's a brief time,  they will now challenge the claim if it's not on and there's a break in.

My house has an alarm, but on the advice of insurance brokers I said I don't have one, when I renewed a few years ago. The premium only increased by €20.

Right, @Strokes my good man

Haven't really drilled into pricing yet, but found this

https://www.netviewcctv.co.uk/checkout/cart/configure/id/31676/

Which appears to be the wireless panel, 4 x PIR, siren and 1 x door contact. So if I chucked in an additional couple of door contacts I'd have (more or less) the kit I need?

I think I have someone who can help me install

Second question

Would also like some CCTV. I see Pyronix do their own cameras but are around £100 each which seems expensive compared to others. But would it be best to get the Pyronix ones - presumably they'll be simple to "add" to the system?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah all seems ok, just look out for things like this in the pre assembled kits .... The outside Bellbox Base & Cover, are NOT included with this kit but can be added below.

So there isn’t a housing for the bell module with that kit, which you would need.

I hadn’t realised Pyronix did CCTV, I know they and HIK Vision are owned by the same group but I’m not sure why these cameras are so expensive.

Let me do a bit of research and find out if there is a USP.

That is interesting. So basically you're probably better off having an alarm but NOT telling the insurance company?

Yep... that's exactly what I do. Made literally no difference to my insurance cost as well.

Yes I use my alarm but I don't tell my insurance company, knowing my luck I'd get broken into the one time I'd forgotten to set it and then not be covered.

Does anyone even pay attention when a house alarm goes off? It probably is a deterrent to the burglar but whenever one goes off I’m just sat there moaning about the noise it’s making.

I suppose you're relying on your immediate neighbours. If I heard an alarm in the immediate vicinity of my house I'd probably take a look. But if I was just driving down the round and heard one I'd probably not take much notice.

I always take a look but then there is always the off chance of a bit of business if it’s faulty ?

Ok I’ve checked out the cameras and the reason they are a bit more expensive is you don’t need an NVR (network video recorder) they have a built in sad card slot and connect straight to your router. Viewing through the app. A bit like a nest camera.

Set up is quite easy and I guess for a 4-6 camera system it actually works out much cheaper because you can do it yourself without any it knowledge.

Thanks mate, much appreciated.

Just one (hopefully) final question regarding the alarm and cameras. Do the components (camera, PIR, box etc) need wiring to the mains or do they run off batteries?
