BURGLED

Got burgled about 5 years ago and had a brand new car nicked of the drive after the cvnts had swiped the keys. Police were round in half an hour to take a statement which was quite funny as we'd been out to a party, got back about 2 in the morning and were both quite tipsy. They did a house over in lutterworth the same night and ended up at mcdonalds next door to sytner at 5 in the morning, how do i know this, because a fireman was outside the firestation, thought it a bit odd 4  lads in hoodies jumping out of a new car at that time of the morning so he phoned the police who went down and nicked them, so i lost my car for about 3 hours but it got impounded as evidence. Went to check for damage when it had been released and the only damage was the 2 rear wheels were knackered caused by the tow truck, covered in talcum powder and full of coins!  I'd never been the victim of a burglary before so for some reason i ended up writing to Tredinnick complaining about the state of the country etc and that villains that steal should have Thieving Scumbag tattooed on their foreheads and that hoodies should be banned as their sole purpose is to hide your face, to my amazement he wrote back sympathizing but saying that it would be an infringement of civil liberties and that the government are powerless when it comes to clothes fashion! But, to be fair, the police did follow everything up and the 4 lads ended up in prison and had to explain to me face to face why they'd nicked the car and how sorry they were (as if).

Why does it have to be between those choices?

What about the alternative of high detection rate and proper deterrant sentencing?

Even better. Though let's get real, they're unlikely to ever attain one of them, let alone both.

Tbf that's pretty decent of the burglar to call you to tell he's finished. Would have been nice if he'd let the dog back in though...

Haha don’t even judge me for this but it was jehovas witnesses that rang me lol my other half is too nice to tell people to **** off so we somehow ended up with their phone number (despite me playing Slipknot when they were at the door) and the police rang them who then rang us.

Thanks for your responses guys. I am still assessing just exactly what has gone, but it was more than the presents.

The fact that someone has been in the house, makes me feel sick inside, and at this moment in time, it doesn't feel like home one little bit. got to find out how I stand re the insurance.

I'm sorry to hear that some of you have experienced the same.

Keep your chin up Tiger happened to me once in the night when I was fast asleep.....  20 odd years ago.

Amongst other things ,the daft sods nicked  my mobile phone .

Did not think much about it until the bill arrived and there were loads of numbers I did not recognise.

Straight to PC Plod and they soon nabbed them …. two fifteen year olds.

Know what you mean about stepping in the house again and not feeling like home … the feeling

passes with time though.

Get a ****ing big dog.  Delivery people don’t like coming to my door let alone burglars coming in.

Cameras are a good idea. Bought 4 for 50 quid with the dvr of eBay, easy to set up and work fine but don’t set an email alert up, especially if you got washing on the line.

Yes I worked for 13 years at my local nick. The great news is they pinched two guys from over the road at 05.20 this morning. I couldn't sleep last night and went to the kitchen window after hearing shouting. Three police cars, and six officers were on scene. I went out and spoke with one, and they had caught them attempting another burglary, two doors away from me.

It appears that all my stuff has been recovered, although they can't release the goods yet.

I guess I am very lucky that they were daft enough to commit the crimes on their own door step, so to speak. What a relief.

Went down to the nick today to identify my stuff. Most of it is there, but not all.

What a couple of stupid cnuts, to try it twice on their own doorstep. It was so lucky for me they did, though.

I had a mate this week return to their house and the robber was upstairs. He just nonchalantly walked past him on the stairs with a knife and left through the front door :o

I know someone once who was woke up one evening with someone climbing through his window. He fetched a saucepan from the kitchen and whacked the **** round the head as hard as he could. Said he just slid back out the window lol

Just had a knock at the door and it was my neighbour (a lovely lady in her 70's) who has just returned from a couple of days away to discover she's been burgled!

She was upset of course, so made her some tea, called the police and then went into the house with her. Stuff everywhere, all cupboards and drawers pulled out. Clothes strewn from wardrobes and drawers. Obvious items taken such as TV and laptop and also car taken from drive.

Really upsetting for her and very close to home of course for us who live in what we consider to be a fairly "safe" neighborhood.

Got me thinking about our own security and have been mulling the idea of an alarm/monitoring system for a while. Anybody got any advice/contacts for alarm companies or general advice?

Wireless intruder systems are excellent these days but don’t be be seduced by low end options.

Best bet for intruder system for price and functionality is Pyronix Enforcer. You can buy a full kit from ADI Gardiner’s in Leicester for under £500, it has WiFi and an app to let you know instantly if you’ve had an activation. I’d happily install it for a price or you can probably about manage it yourself (it’s not that difficult).

CCTV can provide peace of mind too but that’s a wee bit more expensive, your looking at about £1200 for a 4 camera system with remote viewing.

Thanks mate. Will take a look.

I presume this type of thing isn't monitored? Is it worth going for a ADT type monitored alarm?

You could do but police response is shit and you have to have a bell delay for 10 minutes so you’re basically giving any robbers 10 free minutes unless you live next door to the police station. I wouldn’t bother tbh.

Ah, ok. That's worth knowing. Will take a look at the kit you mentioned later. Will probably be back with more questions.... Thanks mate

Had an attempted break in on New Years Eve, whilst we were out. The bastards smashed our garage door in but failed to get in because the damage they did prevented them getting in (twats). However in frustration, they threw a lump of decorative granite from our neighbour's rockery into my car windscreen. Police not interested, got an incident number for insurance purposes but fuxk all else. Waste of time informing the police expecting some kind of investigation unless you've been killed.

Oddly, we had a few drive-by's from those that appeared to be from the "travelling community" a few days ago... CXNTS
