2022 World Cup

Whether we like it or not, it’s going to be held in Qatar as scheduled.

More than likely. ****ing disgraceful.

Don't agree that it's too short notice for Australia though. If they wanted it they could do it, it's just scheduling. They have all the stadia and infrastructure you'd need.

Co-host it with NZ if you're that desperate for a couple more.

I don't know that a Chinese world cup is any less evil than a Qatari one tbh.

To touch on what @ScouseFox and @Finnegan said, a World Cup in Australia would be absolutely fantastic and would do wonders for the game in the crowded sports landscape down there.

Putting aside travel and time difference concerns, that country really has everything you need to host the tournament, and would throw a hell of a party. Even though the voting for 2022 was fait accompli, and having 4 countries in the AFC bidding at the same time was idiotic, Australia's bidding committee has to still be kicking themselves that they only received an abysmal one single vote in the first round of voting.

The Aussie Rules and Rugger League lot won't close down their sport for the period of a World Cup.

And there isn't enough rectangle stadiums of sufficient size. Australia's larger stadiums are generally ovals (the biggest rectangle stadium is currently being rebuilt)

US could host on a short notice - if it was during the summer, as it should be.

We already have the infrastructure, and 80K+ stadiums strewn all over the country.

US have a World Cup in 2026 - give up that and yeah they could have 2022. But they can't have both.

As much as I’d love the World Cup over here, we only have 6 Stadiums that currently would meet the requirements to host a World Cup game.

Having watched major Football games at 2 of these, they are not designed with football I mind and while amazing experiences for Cricket and AFL are terrible for football.

If Australia were to host a World Cup they would require at least 3 new stadiums and a redevelopment of at least 3 others.

Add to this places like the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne- arguably the place most suited to host a world cup game and the owners (AFL) have already said they’d not let there stadium be used for a Football World Cup.

The stadiums such as the MCG, SCG and The GABBA are also already booked out in November and December for England, West Indies and South Africa cricket tours.

in short not a chance Australia could host a World Cup without a lot of notice.

Everything aside, if it wasnt Australia then England would tick all the boxes to host a World Cup.

Or swap the USA/Canada/Mexico one it and give 2026 to Morocco, they never shy away from bidding for it.
