Sir Shep Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Tiredness may be a factor now but I imagine we should be able to rest a lot of players for the Newport game, thankfully it’s away so we should be able to put 11 reserves out and still beat them!

Playing simmo shows he can come back to a player who he has seemingly discarded. Would be easy to just carry on playing Ricardo there whilst amartey is out.
tetly Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 So we got 9 from 12 that’s impressive, going into the Christmas games I would have thought we would get 3 or 4 points max so we have to be happy. We are crying out for some decent attacking options a striker and attacking midfielder and a winger. We have to move some of the average squad players out to strengthen. Disappointed with the cardif result but delighted with our Christmas point total.

Just need a couple quality attackers and we can start beating teams that park the bus. I don’t understand this constant reference to opponents parking the bus. We are not that fearsome that teams park the bus just for us. I think all teams have so far tried to play the way they would normally play tbh. When we play against so called lesser opponents, like Cardiff, yes they are normally more defensively minded, but they appear to “park the bus” because we give them plenty of time to get back on D. They do attack from what I have seen. We just don’t break fast enough.
Tom12345 Posted 2 January 2019 Posted 2 January 2019 One thing to add though is that despite the appalling quality of the game yesterday with both teams unable to string a few passes together, I like the fact that at least we were trying to go forward again much of the time - despite getting intercepted half of the time. I like it. Imagine watching such bad quality of a game yesterday with balls going sideways or backwards the whole game. That would truly be awful. At least that didn’t happen.
Wizerud Posted 2 January 2019 Posted 2 January 2019 In general over the season I think we’ve seen an overall improvement in performance. It’s hard to see it because we’re inconsistent and sometimes our results are all over the shop but we are better now than when we took the field against Man U in the opener. Maybe that’s as much down to the players becoming used to playing with one another as much as anything but we’ve seen Ricardo and Maddison successfully integrate themselves as first teamers and we’ve seen Chilwell establish himself as the unquestioned starting LB that we were hoping he would be. And then there’s Hamza which is maybe the brightest development of all and hopefully another sign that we won’t ignore our own young talent. Moving forward we need to address the striker situation, either transitioning from Vardy to someone else or complimenting Vardy with another forward who could actually serve as a lone striker if Vardy is out. But if we really want to push ahead we have to sign a striker who actually offers us more than Vardy. Which isn’t going to happen until the summer at the earliest and keeping in mind that Vardy is on a gradual decline. They might not be necessarily better than Vardy now but they should be in 12, 18 months or so.
AlloverthefloorYesNdidi Posted 2 January 2019 Posted 2 January 2019 Set ourselves up beautifully for the rest of the season. No reason why we cant improve in the second half and even if we maintain the form of the first half we'll be reet Puel and the squad have done very well. We should be able to kick on and a cheeky decent signing in January would be nice If no incomings, aftet the summer I expect us to improve more as long as we can hold on to most of our players. If Maguire goes so be it, losing anyone else like Ricardo/Chilwell would be unacceptable
mancunianfox Posted 2 January 2019 Posted 2 January 2019 Claude isn’t going to silence the doubters until we sort the home form out and games like Southampton at home are where we need to improve. Let’s face it, what to do against teams who let us have the ball isn’t a new problem, it is something we have struggled with under several different managers ever since we got promoted. In previous seasons Mahrez came up with some big goals in these kind of games but he could also be shut down by teams knowing that we had little other threat. Frustratingly we signed Maddison who was exactly the type of player we needed whilst Riyad was here and we are now back to being in a similar situation again. I don’t think our squad needs loads of additions for the first time in a while but we are one quality attacker away from solving this problem. To have us up to 7th shows that he is doing well with what he has.
