They trailed that in a tournament (USA possibly) but from around 25 yards out.

That’s just a change for change sake, although I’m not saying the current changes are any better.

Looks like the video above your post is just that.

I was just trying to address the 'no rebound' rule that was mentioned. I mean, in an ideal world they would continue (or start) to punish any infringements of players running into the area early but I think it is difficult as 99% of penalties would be retaken and it would take forever. It would also cause handbags on the edge of the area with players trying to get into "prime positions".

Rule changes aren't always easy.

I didn’t see that post mate. I understand where you’re coming from.

They certainly aren’t easy and I’m sure there’s a few that we could all think of that would improve the game.

So long as you win the ball as a keeper you are allowed to basically kill someone.

Equally as long as 'the ball was there to be won', it's fine to swing your boot in the general direction of a goalkeeper's face when he's trying to collect the ball.

Generally speaking there is no harm in a raised leg when a Goalkeeper jumps to receive a ball. Generally goalkeepers, because they're starting from the line, don't have any momentum, making them sitting ducks. If you're attacking a corner you have 18 yards of momentum behind you. As a goalkeeper, if you're not providing a barrier with your leg, you're getting flattened. No ifs, no buts.

You hardly ever see an injury to an outfielder from goalkeepers protecting themselves in this way. They don't have the momentum to do so, and players are usually in the air, so there is no comparison to high feet in general play. The high foot rule leading to red cards is usually associated with the injured player's foot being rooted to the ground, with the angle of attack of a high boot increasing the risk of injury. The comparisons to goalkeepers raising their legs in protection is ludicrous.

The general understanding of Goalkeeping by football fans is so poor. I can't think of another sport that has an element / position to it that is as misunderstood as Goalkeeping is in football.

How many times do you hear 'strong hand' in commentary, when all the keeper has done is attack the angle well. It has nothing to do with bloody hand strength. You don't see goalkeepers exercising their hands in the gym for better strength. And then you've got the cries of 'unstoppable', when the ball glances mere inches past the grasp of a diving goalkeeper. Absolute mindless nonsense. For me, if you're not a goalkeeper yourself you shouldn't have an opinion on it. People are utterly clueless when it comes to goalkeeping.

True.

Also, you would have a player in full kit wandering around the touchline.  Could be very distracting, you could even imagine a team mate sending a pass over to the subbed player and out of play.

Ha ha. I actually did that once. sent a defence splitting cross field pass straight out for a throw in to the opposition. Fortunately our sub (who was warming up ready to come on with his tracksuit off) trapped the ball to stop it going onto the next pitch on the park.

With the no rebound rule, we'll probably never have a "Deeney Day". Which although it was gutting for us, it was an amazing 30 seconds of football, and one of the reasons the game is so amazing (although not always). The sheer unpredictability is what everyone loves. It seems a crazy rule change, especially as VAR should mop up any encroachments etc

This is a totally crazy rule change. despite the above, which was somewhat unusual, surely this potentially takes away the advantage from the attacking team. In the majority of cases when the ball rebounds from a save it goes back to the taker/attacking side. I thought the whole point of a penalty was to punish the defending team in the event of a misdemeanor. Ultimately why is a penalty any different from a free kick. we donnot stop the game once the kick I taken.  It is a dead ball situation and once kicked it is back in play same as free kicks/goal kicks corners etc.  So keeper saves, holding on to ball, no chance for a a quick kick out counter. Does keeper then have to put ball down and take goal kick?  If keeper saves pushing ball behind is that still a corner or goalkick?
