When will refs give a foul if a defender is holding a fwd when ball is hoofed up to them?

The same time they stop giving free kicks when a striker backs in then falls to the ground. Ashley Barnes is a **** for it.

Theses types of decisions even out over a game I reckon.

I don't even get the drop ball one. So when a player boots it out for another injured player they get the ball back from where they had it?

As for the paying supporters who are cheated out of watching a full 90 minutes of play the FA should adopt the policy of Rugby League. Have an off the field Official Timekeeper, take it out of the hands of the referee and sound a bloody big hooter at the appropriate time. It would cut out a lot of nonsense and we would get to see a full game of play.

We were talking about this during the villa playoff game the other day so i timed the first half of extra time just to see what the actual ball in play time was. about 7 minutes.

The whole sub thing isn’t needed I don’t think. Already picturing the first player to run to the centre circle to be as far away as possible from any touchline just before being subbed ?.

all the others are spot on though.

The subs having to leave the pitch at the nearest line off the pitch seems the most sensible. Such an easy way to time-waste before where a manager could tell their player to walk to the other side of the pitch before a goal-kick and then make that sub meaning they have longer to walk.

Now they'll have no choice but to leave the field at the nearest point unless they play dumb and start to leave the field as they would now then get called back by the ref to leave at a different place.

The attackers in a free-kick wall has never really bothered me. Just see it as good tactics for the taker? Don't think there needs to be an official rule for it.

I think it’s good that they are addressing some of these but I feel they are mostly half measures that will not be implemented consistently.

I mean the sub one is just going to cause confusion, who knows which is the nearest side of the pitch when you’re in the middle of a game. Is VAR going to do graphics to show the nearest side of the pitch, are they going to be punished for going to the wrong side? What if they are injured? Will they have to go the long way round? Is it the same for red cards? How many players are going to get abused walking past opposition fans.

The handball one is also going to cause confusion. You can’t have handball being an offence in one area of the pitch but not another. The most contentious handballs are the ones around penalty decisions and that is still going to be the case.

Players will still be allowed to leave the pitch near the dugouts if they are injured or if there is a risk to their safety by walking around the touchline. This is down to the discretion of the referee and the player must leave the field "quickly" if they are given permission to leave via that area. Assumably, any player on the away team in a derby will still leave the pitch via the area near the dugout but will have to at least jog off instead of walk at tortoise speed. Any player on a stretcher will still leave via the most sensible route.

That is basically what is supposed to happen now, but refs are unable to enforce it so why do we think they’ll be able to enforce a more convoluted rule. Simpler rule would be to add a minute on every time the ref knows they are playing silly buggers. We need to stamp out this culture of illegally killing off games not create more convoluted rules. I would add making no attempt to play the ball, buggering around at set pieces and any other sort of delaying tactic.

Repeat offenders are fined and can be punished by reducing the number of substitutes they are allowed to make in the next game.

This is exactly my problem it’s a half measure, like going off for treatment, or all the respect bollocks that is well intended but will never last. I can guarantee that after the first few weeks of the season the only players leaving the field by the nearest edge will be players trying to save time for a substitution. Everyone else will go off normally.

They should just add on a set amount of time for each offence / substitution and even better still a public match clock.

It states in the laws of the game that the ref does not stop his watch for subs but does add on the time at the end, I've never understood why they don't just stop the watch which would stop players walking off slowly, I agree that the official time should be for everyone to see.

The time lost is only part of the problem it’s all about killing the game killing any momentum every time you start to build a little pressure the opposition kills the game, time wasting, arguing, play acting, subs it’s all designed to turn the last part of the game into a mess. You could add 5 more minutes on but it will be 5 more minutes of the same. We need to punish teams that play like this not just add more time on at the end.
