Spudulike Posted 25 December 2019 Posted 25 December 2019 To be honest, it's not only the moment of the decade but also any other decade. Nothing will ever top it. #TheImmortals.
davieG Posted 25 December 2019 Posted 25 December 2019 Martin Tyler, Sky Sports’ voice of football: I am in total agreement with the voting public who’ve declared Leicester City’s title win as the sporting achievement of the decade. In the harsh reality of the football industry in the 21st Century this sort of romance was simply incredible. Leicester should have won the league in the infamous winter of 1962/63 when the country was frozen to a standstill and Everton overtook them right at the end – so it was fitting that they received the trophy in 2015 following a win against Everton. Of course, the title was secured a week earlier when Eden Hazard – who had scored the title-clinching goal for Chelsea the previous season – equalised in the ‘Battle of the Bridge’. Spurs had been winning 2-0, a victory that would have kept the race alive, but after probably the most brutal Premier League match I’ve ever witnessed, it finished 2-2 and I was able to shout the words: ‘Leicester have won the Premier League. Leicester have won the Premier League. Leicester have won the Premier League.’ The essence of team sport is for the whole to be greater than the individual parts and while the individuals were pretty good, the collective spirit and skill of that team was remarkable. My friend and colleague Alan Smith feels the current Leicester team is best in the club’s history – which is quite a compliment given what Claudio Ranieri’s team achieved at odds of 5000/1. What I recall about the day they lifted the trophy was that nobody wanted to go home. The players stayed on the pitch well into the evening and even we broadcasters didn’t want to leave last chapter of the fairy tale. Everyone knew how special the achievement was. There is so much rivalry in football, but pretty much everybody around the world wanted Leicester to win the league that season. It was good news for one football club, but really good news for the game. A footballing fairy tale from the fantastic Foxes. https://www.skysports.com/football/story-telling/11096/11889713/sports-moments-of-the-decade-leicester-win-premier-league-england-win-cricket-world-cup https://www.skysports.com/football/story-telling/11096/11889686/sports-moments-of-the-decade-sergio-aguero-ben-stokes-lewis-hamilton-and-more
ithuriel Posted 25 December 2019 Posted 25 December 2019 Still remember that day but not much of the match, the mass of Italians in and outside the F-bar, the strange intermittent stormy weather, the atmosphere and pre match singing and seeing the cup glinting in the middle of the pitch.
Jimothy Posted 25 December 2019 Posted 25 December 2019 Miracle at Medinah at 9. Harsh. Definite top 5 if not top 3.
