Tomassi Posted 1 November 2005 Posted 1 November 2005 i think so !! not only do they cause noise and light up the sky, they cause death and panic!
Sparky Posted 1 November 2005 Posted 1 November 2005 not banned but just sold to organised displays .
City Fan Posted 1 November 2005 Posted 1 November 2005 not banned but just sold to organised displays . That's exactly what I was going to say. It is damn annoying having fireworks going off at 11pm when you're in bed and going to be getting up at 6am the next morning. Would be less accidents if there were just sold to organised displays instead of back of garden displays.
davieG Posted 1 November 2005 Posted 1 November 2005 Never really understood why we're celebrating the fact that we didn't blow up the Houses of Parliament and James 1st.
Knightonian Posted 1 November 2005 Posted 1 November 2005 Never really understood why we're celebrating the fact that we didn't blow up the Houses of Parliament and James 1st. The first Bonfire night was in 1606, a year after the plot. I think it started as a bit of spin by the government and monarchy to remind people what would happen to them if they went against the state. Until around 1800 it was a fake Pope that was burned rather than a Guy Flawkes. I agree that fireworks should only be available to official organised displays, and only on 5th November, the subsequent Saturday (if November the 5th is not at a weekend), and any Religious festival or New Years eve ect.
Tommy Posted 1 November 2005 Posted 1 November 2005 Theres fireworks going off every 5 seconds round near me, and its pissing me off, cos its interrupting my listening to the City.
cisono Posted 1 November 2005 Posted 1 November 2005 Theres fireworks going off every 5 seconds round near me, and its pissing me off, cos its interrupting my listening to the City. Same here... but what really annoys me is when they start going off well after midnight...
Alexikokopops Posted 1 November 2005 Posted 1 November 2005 Jesus, check out the spoil sports in this thread!! We're making fireworks this year, we can't afford them.

Katy Posted 2 November 2005 Posted 2 November 2005 I agree with Sparky and Gisty, organised displays are fine but when they get into the hands of stupid thick people who aim them at people and cause maiming and death - not good
Cobbo Posted 2 November 2005 Posted 2 November 2005 I had some fired at me a few years ago when I was living in Moss Side. Missed my head by all of a yard. It's a lovely place. So I certainly agree that they should only be sold to well organised events to keep them out of the hands of prats.
Craig Posted 2 November 2005 Posted 2 November 2005 I'll tell you what, they piss me off. Last night at work i was out in the back yard doing my job, listening to us. When suddenly someone decided to light a crate full of bangers or summit, i actually missed the announcement saying it was off and thought it was just a wierdly long half time

Anish Posted 2 November 2005 Posted 2 November 2005 I bet most people's experiences of bad fireworks or idiots messing about with fireworks are few and far between considering the number of fireworks sold. Yes there are some fools who cause injury and don't think about what they are doing. But if you're going to ban fireworks you may as well ban drinking and smoking and anything else deemed as annoying to the public. Get a grip people.
Jon the Hat Posted 2 November 2005 Posted 2 November 2005 In Australia only licensed Fireworks experts are allowed to buy them. This means you can get fireowrks for any event, turnouts at proper displays are higher and you get a better display. And nobody gets injured. A sensible sytem. But with anything that has been allowed up till now it will inevitably require something really nasty to happen to make it politically responsible to ban them. e.g. Dunblane = Ban on handguns.

They do that in France too!

Nationwider Posted 2 November 2005 Posted 2 November 2005 What a load of tosh Anish Is it me, or are "back-yard" firework displays A) sh1t, and B) a waste of your hard-earned? My message to the Commonwealth this bonfire night would be to go to a good firework display at a pub, park etc, have a f***-off massive hot-dog with loadsa onions, ketchup etc, and then retreat to the pub after an hour or so. Everyone's a winer, petit dejourner.

Anish Posted 2 November 2005 Posted 2 November 2005 What a load of tosh Anish Yes this thread is a joke. Bloody whingers you lot are, and people think I moan a lot. There's more important things to be worried about than fireworks - put things in perspective at least. At most you will have to 'put up' with fireworks for 2 weeks over the year, not a lot really.
The People's Hero Posted 2 November 2005 Posted 2 November 2005 Fireworks should be banned altogether cos they're sh it. Finally, someone talking sense. Shame it has to be me everytime.
