foxfanazer Posted 2 May 2020 Posted 2 May 2020 Thinking about purchasing one of these but wanted to consult the oracle that is foxestalk before I got one. Anybody bought one or something similar? The initial cost is £270 and then the 6L kegs are £30ish. Don't know if lockdown is the driving force behind this decision
The Quick Brown Fox Posted 2 May 2020 Posted 2 May 2020 I had one of these, Great bits of kit, takes some time for a keg to cool for use, so if you are drinking alot in one go make sure you are cooling the next kegs with plenty of notice, or you will be drinking warm beer. They take up quite a bit of room in the kitchen. If you have the room and a big enough fridge for the spare kegs then I would 100% recommend.

nnickn Posted 2 May 2020 Posted 2 May 2020 6 ltr keg is not much for the average drinker , seen 12 ltr dispensers for that price
The Quick Brown Fox Posted 2 May 2020 Posted 2 May 2020 Beer hawk yeah. With every keg you buy they take 5 pound deposit for the keg, when you return them they load your account with the 5 pound so 25 quid a keg ain't bad and the more you buy the cheaper they get.
Dr The Singh Posted 2 May 2020 Posted 2 May 2020 Go on eBay and buy a proper draught kit, far better and overall cheaper
Unabomber Posted 2 May 2020 Posted 2 May 2020 My mate has got one and says it’s amazing. I am very tempted to get one myself. The keg choices on beer hawk look great too. **** it go for it @foxfanazer

That was a fun day, delicious stuff though!
TheUltimateWinner Posted 2 May 2020 Posted 2 May 2020 I've got a Sub which is like the PD but smaller and has beers from Heineken. They're 2L torps and normally give me around 4 pints. I personally love it. It's cheaper than a PD and normally fetches for around £50 on FB marketplace. However they're doing a bundle where you get a Sub and 4 Birra Morretis for £99 which isn't bad value IMO. Depends how much you drink I guess. I'd like to get a PD but can't justify it right now as I don't drink that heavy and would only really use it for entertaining (which I won't be doing for some time!).

I did take a look at those actually. Think I prefer the range of beers on beer hawk a bit more though
Milo Posted 2 May 2020 Posted 2 May 2020 Looks like a bit of a pricey way to drink beer, imo. 6L is about 10 pints and the kegs are about £35-£40 each, plus the £270 outlay for the gear. Is it lager or ale that you drink? If it's for lager, then it's probably a better bet - if you're a craft ale drinker there are cheaper options out there

Think it's closer to 12 pints but get your point. I'd mainly be getting Leffe tbh. With sending the Keg back it works out around £25 per keg so although not cheap it's fairly reasonable. It probably would be a bit of a novelty purchase I'd love to find one that serves Guinness

Seems expensive.

Yeah it's closer to 12 and the glass you get for leffe is presumably 660ml so would probably get about 20 glasses per keg. 3 kegs per months should do it
