Leicester City transfer news: Tottenham had been mentioned as a possible destination for FC Koln defender Ismail Jakobs, it has been reported, but he looks set to join Leicester

Leicester City have been linked with an exciting move for German starlet Ismail Jakobs.

According to Spanish media outlet Todo Fichajes, City are interested in the 20-year-old defender with Brendan Rodgers' side said to already be in contact with FC Koln, who value their asset at £9 million.

Jakobs, who plays for boyhood club Cologne in the Bundesliga, had been linked with a move to City in February while Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur were also credited with an interest in the former BC Bliesheim man.

The Daily Mail linked City with Jakobs earlier this year, with Italian giants AS Roma also said to be keen.

Jakobs only made his debut in the German top flight in November after coming through Koln's youth academy.

He can play at left-back or further forward and was named the Bundesliga's 'rookie of the month' for December.

Jakobs signed a new contract in March, one that will tie him down to Koln until 2022.

After recovering from a muscle injury earlier this season, Jakobs made his debut in November and has played 14 matches since.

He has scored twice and registered one assist.

Jakobs is said to be attracting several European clubs, according to reports.

He qualifies for the Senegalese national team, through his father, as well as Germany.
