Head Honcho Posted 8 November 2005 Share Posted 8 November 2005 Elvis worries me, He's 25 and shows no signs of becoming a player who can score goals. His main problem seems to be a lack of strength in holding a player off and shooting. I hate to say it but I don't see Elvis ever being the answer to our lack of goals. I'd love him to prove me wrong. His main problem is scoring!

Ric Flair Posted 11 November 2005 Author Share Posted 11 November 2005 There are alot of crap players in thia league who score goals, it isn't impossible for Elvis to score. You only have to look at Akinbiyi, Furlong, Marlon King, etc to see that it's not about quality in this league it's about who wants it the most, lots of luck and being in the right place at the right time. Akinbiyi has always had the knack of getting about 5 chances a game, at Leicester he would miss all 5. At Burnley he is putting away 1 or 2 of these chances most matches. Elvis needs to study where the ball is heading the majority of the time in the box and make sure he's there.

Yes but Akinbiyi and Furlong are big and shit! they throw themselves around and Furlong and King can head a ball, Elvis cant shield a ball, head a ball, strike a ball, get into a decent scoring postion hold the ball up, he cant even pass it very well! He just runs. ending in noting most of the time. I think he needs to go to David Hunt soccer school before he starts studying videos of chambers ect playing. The first half a dozen appearances for us he did look like he could do all of the above except score, now he can't do any of the above and he still can't score either. It is horrifying at the minute. Nathan Ellington is your answer on loan.

Well the first few apperance he was out on the right wing, and a couple apparnces as a striker, and he looked hungry, but I wouldn't see he could do ALL of the things I mentioned. When he first arrived I thought hes scoring record wouldnt be a problem and given a few appernces he would start netting. He doesnt even look like a proffesional footballer at the moment never mind a proffesional goal scorer. Ellington, pffff Their using as a sub quite a bit though. Would never come to Leicester on loan I dont think. Your answer is to drop the usless ^&)(%^ for 3 or 4 games and then give him another go, prefferable against poor oppostion or possibly in the league cup. Although I dont think it will make much differnce I just think the lad is void of all talent.

I know he wouldn't want to drop down a league but a short term deal to show West Brom how easy it is for him to score might benefit us both. I reckon we would stand a chance of getting him until christmas.

Ricey Posted 11 November 2005 Share Posted 11 November 2005 Elvis excited me greatly when he first came here but know I'm starting to think maybe all he has is pace and determination. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong and get some goals.

Foxes_Wizard_Striker Posted 11 November 2005 Share Posted 11 November 2005 He hit a cross for someone to score a sign of a winger perhaps but let hope Levien work his magic on strikers as he has done with defenders
The People's Hero Posted 11 November 2005 Share Posted 11 November 2005 Corky was good with his strikers. We're never going to score many goals. Levein was a similar type of manager at Hearts. Dull, boring games with very few goals. We'll be struggling to get 20k a game soon.

Bert Posted 11 November 2005 Share Posted 11 November 2005 How much was he? £300,000+? Fulham must have been laughing all the way to the bank. Why? they've got Al Fayed for that. I think Elvis was a panic to soften the Connolly blow. he works hard, runs fast, and gets caught offside a lot, thts wat he brings to the team. The People's Hero Posted 11 November 2005 Share Posted 11 November 2005 His fast running enables him to get in to those offside positions that bit earlier. Well done Elvis.
Thracian Posted 11 November 2005 Share Posted 11 November 2005 He hit a cross for someone to score a sign of a winger perhaps but let hope Levien work his magic on strikers as he has done with defenders From what I've seen up to now it would surprise me no end if Levein (despite his good qualities) has any real idea how to get the best out of strikers. First he's got endless work on to get the individual techniques up to scratch, the front post runs, the crossover runs, the check and go movements, the dummy runs, and the understanding which comes with playing regularly together. Next there's the motivation. Goalscoring is often about self belief and strikers often need bulling up with bagfuls of encouragement. They need convincing they're unstopable. Then they need good habits drilling into them so they're as natural to them as breathing fresh air. Habits which , whatever their shooting situation have them thinking "target first". Habits which make them hit shots without over elaboration. Habits which keep them calm at the kill. Habits which make them concentrate and alert enough to score again when they've scored once instead of being satisfied and going into self-praise mode. Finally he needs goalscoring personel and he needs a specialist free-kick/corner kick taker to ensure we increase our number of goalscoring opportunities and to help ensure that we take some. If an ex-centre-half can deal with (or oversee) all that with his present staff I will be amazed. It's a specialist job dealing with specialist players. We'll need a specialist coach in my view. Anyone seen Tony Cottee?
The People's Hero Posted 11 November 2005 Share Posted 11 November 2005 Tony Cottee could still do a job for us on the pitch and would probably be invaluable in a coaching role. Les Ferdinand too could teach strikers a lot.

Foxes_Wizard_Striker Posted 11 November 2005 Share Posted 11 November 2005 Sir Les are employed by Watford so he is busy at moment and Tony was last seen rubbing his hands in an attempt to take over West Ham so both are sadly unavavible
The People's Hero Posted 11 November 2005 Share Posted 11 November 2005 The thing is... I don't think Levein will try to get the strikers scoring when the 'ref robbed us today' and 'we were so unlucky' excuses still have some life in the yet. Also, whilst the strikers are cr ap, we have a scapegoat.. a distraction. When they're scoring a few but we're still not winning enough games, Levein's lack of tactical nous will be questionned, that's the last thing he wants. ps before some of you half-brainers jump on my back, the above is tongue in cheek. I can almost hear your shouts of 'Keep the Faith' and other such long discarded corporate bullsh itisms.
SystonFox Posted 11 November 2005 Share Posted 11 November 2005 keep the faith. we were so unlucky last week. we were robbed. the ref is blind. it wasnt offside. it was over the line. keep the faith. maybury kicked him. handball ref. keep the faith. call the game off at half time please ref. call it off. we got lucky this time. im working on strikers. keep the faith. hows that?
