We do like getting a good battering at times .

A few need to re gain consistent form and confidence.

But the positive is winning the series and some good performances.

I guess it's because England play the same way, whatever the conditions & whoever they play. It's a bit like Russian Roulette.

Often it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I do think England will need to be a bit more pragmatic at times against sides such as India & Australia though.

A typical get this done today whatever happens attitude from England really - similar to how recent dead rubber test matches have gone, especially end of tours.

Bethell played really well but then chucked it away with an awful shot. Really like the look of him though, just comes across as a class act.

Overall though, a series win in New Zealand is a good result.

Would be a huge draw for India if they can get through it and with Hazlewood injured you'd think they'd see out the final day because the aussies will have to bat a session or 2 to bat India out the game.

England test squad is shaping up nicely for the India series in the summer and Ashes next winter. The first XI looks the most settled it has done for a while. Crawley is a concern but there aren't too many options to replace him so you've just got to hope he hits a bit of form at the right time. I'd move Root and Brook up a place and drop Pope or Bethell in at 5 to take the pressure off them a little bit. Atkinson and Carse look like really solid and with Wood potentiallly rotating with Archer you have options for express pace. Would still be worried about Woakes in Australia and Bashir will need to get a bit more consistency in his game.

Woakes won't go to Australia.

Konstas looks like a good T20 player as well, hopefully once Australia stop messing around in Test cricket with selecting players to open who don't open he might get a look in.

First time I've seen him play this morning and he looked solid.

I hope you're right. Didn't think he'd go to NZ either tbh. Atkinson looks good enough to bat at 8.

The wickets are similar in NZ to ours, a bit greener & not fast. Woakes does well over here.

England will take a pure pace attack to Australia.....Wood, Archer (if fit), Stone, Carse, Atkinson, Potts, etc.

Agreed.

Even better if Pennington, Tongue and Hull are fit and in form too.

I'd be inclined to take n start Ahmed over Bash too, at least Rehan can bat and contribute if he's not bowling in the first innings.

He's going to have this thrown at him all the time but he's clearly a talented kid.

Avg of 12 from 4 matches I know, only 16 years old and good enough for England's 2nd XI?

Not for me he hasn't.

I live in Manchester so watch a fair bit of Lancs. He has talent but was thrown into a team in awful form and for some reason batted mostly at 4 when 6 or 7 would have been more appropriate for a young player in his first season. Looked good when he first came into the team, particularl in the one day games, then lost confidence. I do worry he's being fast tracked too quickly - there's enough pressure on him with that name already.

Speaking of openers being dropped - the Aussies are dumping McSweeney after just 3 tests and calling up a 19 year old .

Certainly be a baptism of fire up against Bumrah and co.

Finally picking an opener to open, I've mentioned him above, he's a real talent, feel for McSweeney as he shouldn't have been opening anyway really, but excited to see Konstas at test level.

Read somewhere McSweeney was the only player Aussie under 30 in the last 3 tests.

Must be a few others to break through if required ?

Surprised Hardie hasn't played a test for them yet seeing as he's played a few times in white ball and his first class stats are very good. There's a few other younger lads who look like good prospects, but think they'll milk the current lot for as long as possible
