Yeah, that's it, I made my thoughts on the Leicester Mercury well-known in a thread last week, but that's the final straw for me.

Maybe it would be worthwhile making an agreement between ourselves to stop posting links from it here on FoxesTalk. They're a disgusting rag nowadays. I doubt there's a single local paper in the country so desperate for clickbait traffic that they're willing to stir up shit about both players and the manager of the team they're supposed to support.

This is where we find ourselves 12 years after the last Sporting Blue was published. The Mercury is dead to me.

I'm going to ask a deliberately naive question, but don't Woolwich Arsenal currently have a manager?

Yes, he's a great branch manager

It's not a local newspaper anymore though is it. Blanket owned clickbait crap

Does it even have any reporters these days? Or is e erverything a mixture of rehashed press releases and PA agency copy?

Has anyone ever asked Jordan Blackwell why the LM is so so bad? He’s a decent reporter and I’ll lend an ear to listen when he has something smart to say. The rest of it is terrible even the website with all the pop ups is just a horrible experience. Since hardly anything is printed anymore could we have a new local owned and reporter news agency?

I remember once seeing a headline "Club being urged by fans to....". The article literally quoted a handful of random Twitter accounts, not even sure if they were real people let alone Leicester fans.

Gone to pot since the Mercury building went in all honesty

Because It some time ago, Joe Mattock 1m in 2009, when we went down to League 1, Leicester fans were pretty bitter about it at the time as he was going to be our next big thing

Gareth McAuley, who was agruable one of our best players at the time end up there to all be it with a season a Ipswich inbetween

Maybe I hold grudges to long

I’d forgotten about Mattock: one of those “might have been” players.

But McAuley spent three years at Ipswich before he joined West Brom. Interesting thing about him is that he always saw out his contacts, apart from the one he signed for us in the February before we went down to the Third Division. I assume that, like several players who left at that time, he went to lighten our wage bill. Did we get a fee?

My mind playing tricks on me, no I think McAuley went on a free.

Pearson was not happy with Mattock approach to getting what he wanted from memory.

It's only the London Press pushing for this out of wishful thinking, Unless Arsenal are in some sort of relegation scrap I can't them sacking Arteta. I think he'll be given the full season. Come the end of the season Leicester will be in the champions league which squash these rumours.

I think Arteta WILL be sacked if Arsenal lose a few more. That said, Rodgers would be barmy to leave our squad of players for Arsenal’s! They are shite at the moment

The only jobs I could see Rodgers leaving us for is Man City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and England. Otherwise were safe.

Two of those can't afford him.

It's bad because nobody buys it anymore, same with most local and some national papers. Why would they? Anything you could possibly want to find out about Leicester from the Mercury you could learn from just following someone like Fabrizio Romano on Twitter. Hence the endless stream of clickbait about our players moving elsewhere or being "sent a message" by some gobshite ex-player and the website overrun with ads - they're desperate, and anybody with anything even vaguely interesting or insightful to say isn't going to be doing so for any sum the Mercury can afford to offer them. There's an idea on here that the Mercury turned into a shambles and then people stopped reading it when in reality it's much more the opposite.
