Brilliant song, isn’t it about the end of a love affair??? Illicit affair??? I read somewhere that it was written to imagine a film, conjuring images, mood and atmosphere. Anyway, as I said, great song regardless.

its's a fine song but does have the most appalling near rhyme

One of sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open
They might have just as well've been closed

Coast and closed.  Grates every time I hear it.

Anything by neil diamond.

"I am"... I said
To no one there
And no one heard at all
Not even the chair

Sweet caroline was about his wife Marcia,  but he needed 3 syllables and  Marcia didn't fit

Sorry for late comment. Depending on what explanation you believe. It was a reference to the empty chair In the shrinks room or something from Neil Diamond's Jewish background. Have you ever been a place where you are not known by anybody. Surrounded by people but completely alone. Talking about another of his songs. Cracklin Rosie is a bottle cheap wine not a woman.

Pretty Flamingo by Manfred Mann

When she walks she moves so fine like a flamingo

What, with a massive hook nose and her knees on backwards?

I'm Like A Bird by Nelly Furtado

"I'm like a bird, I only fly away

I don't know where my soul is

I don't know where my home is."

That's right Nel, choose an animal that is renowned for being able to travel thousands of miles and find their way home.

Nelly "never heard of a homing pigeon" Furtado

Still, better than her other song, I'm Like A Monarch Butterfly.

But in a much better way, every Cocteau Twins song ever.

I haven't googled to check but didn't Liz Fraser (?) make up her own language or words? That's what my brother told me 'back in the day'.

Not hundred percent sure, but I think they used real words from lots of different languages, chosen for their sound, so that Liz's voice was an instrument.

Don't quote me on that! lol

Sorry for the quote :giggle:

Ive had a quick Google and it seems you are probably correct. Also, I didn't realise she had a relationship with Jeff Buckley.

My letters to her management pointing out that whilst it's not language I'd normally use, she is not simply like a bird but actually is a bird were judged to be 'unhelpful'

Sting had a perfectly rational fear with...

I hope my leg don't break walking on the moon

And was Elton coming out with...

I miss the earth so much I miss my wife

(I mean, just how bored must he have been to miss his wife!)

Literally any Sigur Rós song

Even if you understand Icelandic?

Having said that, The Sugarcubes sang in English and didn't make much sense.

Every The Mars Volta song.

Brilliance!

Can't find the original video for this, which is a shame... it was genius!

Maybe Icelanders can decode some of their 'Hopelandic'.

Almost everything on radio ones playlist. It just sounds like gibberish with a random footballers name added to it.

Example:

Prada always treat me and my set like Gianfranco Zola
In N9, see me, I'm like Pep Guardiola
Even on street, see me was a soldier
Say they wanna be like me when is older
All this crud that my knees went weak
Man I put all my weight in a Rover
You can never be like me, no
Made a quarter milli' last week, shows
Of course I gotta keep the right team close
Why they wanna see me D-I-E?
