Head Honcho Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 The majority of the Plymouth fans were laughing at us when we signed him, that doesn't suggest he had 2 GREAT seasons before he signed for us. He was about as good for them as Jordan Stewart was for us. Most of the posts on the Plymouth sites were singing his praises so I don't know where you got your information from. All I know is that they were pissed off that they only got 200k for him.

I have family that are plymouth fans! and they laughed their asses off at me, and from what i have seen of him so far it was justified
Head Honcho Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 what a joke gilbert did nothing wrong when he was given his chance Levein is just a grade A arse, he has lost the plot come on blackpool, ask for Hume on loan, you'll get him as this idiot we like to call a manager doesn't like to play his better players You can't deny that we are more solid at the back without him! I like the guy and think that with a couple of good games behind him he'll come good but he won't get that at city with a manager who doesn't have a clue

Benji Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 when gilbert was brought Levein called him a promising defender with potential he commented that he would not play him till he was ready yet throwed him straight in the squad to play... so everyone knows he has potential... he plays for his country... yet people decide to scrutinise him on only 4 appearances hammond has made 11 starts and 11 sub appearances this season, equally only scoring 1 goal, compare that to bad defending? yet people stick with hammond saying give him time, wheres the equality in this then? double standards, gilbert was a player brought for the future, yet as usual levein seems to pull names out of the hat when it comes to choosing his starting 11, and then pulls another one out at the end of the game to blame for the result

Head Honcho Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 I have family that are plymouth fans! and they laughed their asses off at me, and from what i have seen of him so far it was justified Hindsights wonderful innit at the end of the day he had "great potential" when he joined and due to Levein's piss poor style of management he didn't develop into a better player. At least he can say adios to Levein we're stuck with him
Head Honcho Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 If I could be bothered to track back a few months posts i'd show you. I'm not saying you won't find any but for every one you'll find against him you'll find one for him. Thats football for ya!

Cobbo Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 Who's stuck by Hammond? He's a shite striker. And I'm sure he threw and not throwed him into the squad

Cobbo Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 Levein can just fook off as far as i am concerned i am calling for his head on sat right from the off 'Craaaiiiiigs head, Craaaiiigs head, over here!' ?
Benji Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 Who's stuck by Hammond? He's a shite striker. And I'm sure he threw and not throwed him into the squad hahaha yer my fingers type quicker than i think look at the match day leicester team threads half of people on here always put hammond up front, there are people who understand he is shite yes, but everyone has had loads of time to give him chance and see if he can improve my point is Levein manages to have a pop at players after 5 games, but stick with some players who consistantly have played poor all season
Strokes Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 'Craaaiiiiigs head, Craaaiiigs head, over here!' ? Ha just had to get that off my chest its bin building up all day, the Toss*r

So we all end up bickering amongst ourselves with our own prejudices - including mine.

So we all end up bickering amongst ourselves with our own prejudices - including mine. true, but that proves a point, if they are all equally not putting in and performing to the best of their ability, then how can he single out one or two players? I have not seen a performance where one player has been so bad compared to the other 10 and definitely not consistantly. When people say they think a player is poor, you could equally pick another who is equally as bad. What frustrates me is his decision to almost randomly pick a player, dislike him and blame him for the troubles at the club.
Durnerz Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 Good riddance, i'd sooner have Johansson at Left back, at least he doesnt shy away from a tackle or drop 3-4 metres away from the winger allowing him to cross. Agreed Mayburys not much better on the right than Gilbert but we know Maybury can play better judging by last season, i've never seen Gilbert play well for Leicester, Plymouth or Wales. Fock off.
Louise Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 Hmm. I don't have a problem with this, Levein will probably make most of his money back as Sturrock is a fan of Gilberts. Levein obvously underestimated the strength we'd have at left-back in the close season and now wants to get Gilbert off the wage bill as soon as possible so that he can have a little extra money in the transfer window. He certainly won't be any great loss to the side, it is a shame he didn't have more of a chance but that's the way things go, at least Levein is getting him out now rather than waiting until the end of the season or something..
Anish Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 Hmm...I'm caught in two minds about this. On the one hand I want to lambast Levein (again!) and say what the **** is he doing. We've plaid 200k for this kid and he's turned out to be completely garbage to be fair. Who on earth scouted Gilbert - they should be sacked asap. Our club can't afford to spend 200k on a player to loan to another Championship club. I tell you what, if we hadn't bought Gilbert I'd rather that 200k have gone to sack Levein and pay him compensation On the other hand, maybe Levein is finally seeing what the rest of us have seen, that Gilbert is shite and has no place at this club. So respect to him for that. However, as a manager he should have figured out how good a player he was BEFORE he signed him, not 4 months later.
MC Prussian Posted 25 November 2005 Posted 25 November 2005 From bbc.co.uk: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sturrock adds duo to Owls' ranks Sheffield Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock has completed the loans signings of Sunderland striker Daryl Murphy and Leicester left-back Peter Gilbert. Sturrock is familiar with Gilbert, 23, from their days at Plymouth and hopes to eventually sign him permanently. "He played for me for two-and-a-half- years at Plymouth but has been unfortunate at Leicester," Sturrock told the club's website. "Hopefully, things work out and we can take him permanently in the window." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just hope they pay as much as we did. 200'000+?
Ric Flair Posted 25 November 2005 Posted 25 November 2005 Sturrock managed him when he was at Plymouth and as Louise said he's obviously a big fan of his. Sturrock also strikes me as abit of a gimp and we should get most of our money back on him. Sturrock also reminds me a little bit like Worzel Gummidge crossed with Steve Irwin. Disturbing.

Yeh if Sturock rates him we could probably get that back i dont think they have much money problems they did put a bid in for Trundle and some other players so i think they can afford it
