It's shit how it's been left to ruin but I think I'll survive these days without knowing which takeaway Tom Mack has had this week.

It depends what they do after these job cuts, but The Merc might not have a dedicated Leicester reporter going forward.

Absolute vandalism from Reach yet again. Started with cutting other sports' coverage, then lower leagues, now this.

All because they've no dynamism at the top and think big scale advertising is the only way you can make money out of the internet.

Feel for anyone in the journalism space - uber competitive I suspect, pay naff unless you’re a top dog - and an industry where people are going to be less and less inclined to pay for content given how much people’s disposable income shrinks and will shrink further over the next few years.

In an age of AI-generated slop and thickos sat in their bedrooms lying on social media about being ITK, there's still a premium for decent football journalism. Unfortunately the bin-fire that is the Reach group ain't it. The website has been unusable for about 5 years.

It's shit but Blackwell knows what he's doing, has enough connections within the club to go elsewhere and will be fine, I'm sure.

Misleading headline of 2026 goes to...

Four signings, Chelsea and Man Utd loans, three exits – Leicester City's dream transfer window

Then you read the actual text:

Four signings, Chelsea and Man Utd loans, three exits – Leicester City's dream transfer window | Leicestershire Live

It really is an awful "newspaper". And not just for reporting on LCFC.

Has anyone else noticed that Leicestershire Live now has 'premium' articles for which if you want to read you have to pay £5 a month?

Yeah good luck with that one guys!

I discovered that just now.

No chance. Their journo's are crap anyway.

They're hardly ground breaking and half the LCFC stories they get off FT.

There are some decent articles if you're interested in the wider Leicester/shire but not something I would pay for and certainly not a £5/month

Good journalism costs. Especially local journalism. This is clear from the state of local newspaper websites over the last 15 years.

Unfortunately the state of those websites has ebbed away at the good will people have for most local newspapers and their trust in the content they're going to put out.

If you subscribe to the LM online paper, you will still get the same shite content but without ads*.

I was asked earlier to get a copy of the mercury by a elderly relative to be utterly dumbfounded when the cashier asked for £2.40

You are right and your not getting that from Reach

this was a article from Brian Dick Reach Football Correspondent so he writes in multiple regional newspapers, these are extracts from an article he wrote for the leicester mercury after the boycotted west brom game

“The Foxes turned in a modest performance against a side that had lost its previous nine away games and looked to be heading for a 1-1 draw after seeing Jordan Ayew’s silky opener cancelled out by a Karlan Grant counter-attack.”

“Asked about the boycott Cifuentes expressed his gratitude for the 27,130 who did go: “First of all, I would say to the fans who came that I appreciate it because it was a very cold night and to come here hopefully they got the reward in the last minute goal and they can go home happy”

“It is only fair to point out while attendance was the smallest at home so far this term, there is mitigation given the weather and the fact the match was on television. Indeed it was only a few hundred smaller than the 27,925 who watched the Foxes lose to Blackburn in November.”
