At least 4 times this season this hasn't worked for me.

I must be just incredibly lucky then. Thought you said you had no issues with NFT in another post?

You have just as much of a chance that you lose your wallet or have it stolen than your phone not working too.

More than happy I didn’t pay £25 for nothing.

Have you attended any cup game since the digital tickets have been introduced? It certainly isn’t quicker then, there is always queues but last time against QPR was the worse, I got to the ground like I normally do 35 mins before kick off and actually missed the kick off because I was stood outside in a queue

It is definitely quicker, easier, more straight forward to share tickets and no risk of losing it. I did NFC the first season it was rolled out in 22/23 and it was very good, like a breath of fresh air. Switched back to physical in 23/24 mainly due to my dad who I got to games with being a typical 'resistant to any change' type of person. Back to the old micro annoyances of having one now.

But the £25 fee is a really low blow from them.

I’ve not been to a cup game this season. I have done previously and found getting into my area ok, although larger queues in other places. I assume that’s because the amount of people that haven’t used it before. Should get better I would assume, the more times people use it.

For season ticket holders at league matches, it really doesn’t slow anything up at all.

Hi guys,

I have a membership and in the past I have sent on a ticket to mates (just the email confirmation and they download the ticket to their phone).

Has anybody done that this year? Does that still work since the memberships are now in wallets too?

thanks!

The fee was there to discourage people from keeping the card. With no fee, most people would have just kept the card. They would prefer people not to pay the £25, so it wasn’t just a money making exercise.

As it is, there really isn’t much sense in keeping the card anyway and I certainly wouldn’t go back to one.

With any change it takes ages to bed in and become routine. Unfortunately we live in a world where we expect everything to instantly work absolutely perfectly, which ofc is not realistic.

From all the people around me at the turnstile for the QPR game that were having issues (and causing delays) it seemed to be people that had ignored the all of the emails and announcements telling them to download their tickets and have them ready before hand

I paid £25 to pass on my card to family/friends when I am unable to make the match.

Good news though that you save a valuable 2-3 seconds by not having to get your plastic card out.

Yes, that’s clearly the only reason some people want to hold onto their card.
No point making out like it’s because of phones breaking or no signal etc.

Good news also for me that even with NFT I can transfer my ticket to others on five occasions, or also get my money back by reselling on others. If I really go to less matches than that, then it’s probably fair I give my season ticket up to somebody else waiting in the queue anyway.

That's my point, it's much easier to share an NFC ticket. Now I'm back on physical ticket it's much harder to swap. Have to co-ordinate physical picking up and returning a piece of plastic for entry into a stadium. Totally pointless waste of time in 2025.

It’s never not worked for me. One press on the phone and it’s there.

Since they first introduced cards (which must be 25 years or so ago as I had one at Filbert Street) it never failed to work.

I've used NFC half a dozen or so times for cup games, and one time it failed. Same phone, same process, just didn't work (NFC or QR code) for me (NFC didn't work for my wife's ticket either, but QR code did!). I had both tickets together on my phone, so she went in and I was stuck outside!. That's the problem, sometimes it just doesn't work and I can see by the amount of people turning round at the turnstile every game that it's a common issue.

I use NFC for card payments etc. and have no issues with it, and have a up to date Google pixel phone, but I don't want to be forced to use it for my season ticket as I don't want to get there 10 mins before kick and risk having to join hundreds of people in queue to get it sorted.

I have no issues with NFC, just 1) the lack of choice for people who'd prefer not to use it for whatever reason, and 2) the way the club are implementing to make passing the season ticket to a friend for the occasional game inconvenient, and sharing a season ticket (as people have done since the beginning of time) very difficult.

They say that it's only being forced on us being the Premier League are making it mandatory, so let's see if the club back down if/when we're in the Championship next season.

My Card is in my phone case and it's much quicker pulling it out than opening my phone and finding the NFT ticket.

From a personal perspective I am perfectly happy with NFC.  It has failed to work once in 30+ matches and that was user error because I hadn’t checked it had automatically updated before I got to the stadium and I made the mistake of deleting the one from the previous game so had to get it sorted at the ticket office.  On other occasions when it hasn’t updated a manual update has worked every time.

What I think most people object to is not being given the option to stick with a card without paying £25.  This coincided with a time when relations between the club and fans were on a downward path anyway.  I would accept that physical cards are probably slightly more expensive to administer but not £25 more so a nominal fee of, say £5 would make sense.  If NFC really is more convenient then people will migrate towards it over time in the same way as more people now pay for things using their phone rather than a card.

We have had NFC tickets for 3 seasons now with no issues and when necessary have shared the ticket easily when we couldn’t go. Screen shots of the ticket/bar code work.

I cannot believe in 25 years it's not worked for you, you are surely a complete anomaly.

Physical tickets have not worked for me loads, lost the card tonnes of times and had to go to the ticket office to get a paper replacement, pay the fee for a new card etc...

Always had a card after paper season tickets ended. Never failed when entering stadium.

Also have never lost it, and I  have never lost a debit card credit card cheque guarantee card and any other membership card 😂😂

I’m not going to quibble over which method saves the most seconds, but one press on your phone brings the ticket up. There is nothing to find.

I understand change takes time but digital tickets have been around for a number of years for other events, they work for music events, theatre, cinema, festivals, so the argument of people not understanding how it works it not something I can agree with

digital tickets don’t seem to work efficiently enough for football with a large volume of people arriving in a small window especially if you have more then 1 ticket on the phone, there also is not enough people around incase something goes wrong

the announcement on a non-stop loop over the tannoy certainly points to that

I have an iPhone and have never used it to pay for anything I've not even set up Apple Pay and don't want to for anything else as I use a card or my Desktop PC. My wife doesn't have or want a phone and doesn't even like using a card prefers cash.

This is the main problem for those using digital.

Just remember 2 things:

1. A smart phone is a computer (albeit a computer that can make phone calls and send texts).

2. Computers always work ... until they don't.

(Every computer I've owned has at some point hung, stopped doing what it should've done, or just plain died and given up the ghost.)

I've never had to restart my ST card.
