FoxInTheBirstallBox Posted 10 March 2023 Posted 10 March 2023 MOTD will not have any pundits or presenters. BBC headline just announced 1

People aren’t advocating for open borders. Clearly there is an issue with Albanian immigration to this country. Our country is going against the laws that advocate a safe place for those fleeing war.

It's the reality of what's put on the front page of a right wing rag for the delectation of those who froth at the mouth. For the actual reality look a bit further than the Mercury would be my advice. Leicester Mercury is part of the Reach Newspaper group which is mostly the Daily Mirror group historically, so sorry to piss on your chips, but it ain't no right wing rag. Over to you....

And we take in way, way less refugees than the other 2 similar sized western European countries - France and Germany. Germany has 3 times as many applicants as we did in 2021 and France over twice as many for reference. Link below UNHCR - Asylum in the UK And refugees and asylum seekers are legally allowed to claim asylum in any country they like, it's explicitly listed in international law that they don't have to claim asylum in the first safe country they enter - and this is international law which UK were literally the ones writing up the law on and the head signature of and got other countries to sign up to in 1948 as a result of WW2. Are we not missing the point somewhat though? We keep referring to asylum seekers who are totally different from economic migrants. Some are fleeing persecution, others, whilst you can't necessarily blame them, are seeking a better life of sorts. The first we should try to help and support as best we can, the second, we have our own to look after first in a country where the NHS, social services, education, police and other public services are at rock bottom. We can’t just accept everyone that wants to come here, you can only slice a cake into so many peices. 1

He was referring to a very neutral newspaper article to be fair, that showed at least 15 Albanian men being sentenced to around 85 years in prison for cocaine dealing in the city and county. It was news worthy, there wasn’t any reference to their nationality. Nonetheless, people have to see the difference between an Albanian and someone fleeing a war torn country.

Poznan34 Posted 10 March 2023 Posted 10 March 2023 U-turn coming soon you'd think. Lineker comments not dissimilar to the sort of thing Ian Hislop has been saying on Have I Got News For You for years 3

If our scumbags in government can blow billions on defunct PPE and failed tracing scenes ect, they can afford to home people and look after them. The money is there, its just put in the wrong places And to say we need to look after our own, there's more of our own killing the system than people who come here from abroad 1

Its basically the mirror group with loads of local publications and then later down the line the Express sold into it. To say the Leicester Mercury is a right wing rang is boarding on the best joke in a decade.

Popular Post Matt_Lcfc Posted 10 March 2023 Popular Post Posted 10 March 2023 (edited) People who show disregard towards asylum seekers genuinely astonish me. This abject failure to give recognition to the fact that they are normal people is just complete ignorance. Even if you lived an average life in the UK, you do not realize how lucky you have it, these countries are absolutely riddled with war and poverty. You have done nothing of merit to deserve this life. I have had my challenges with Lineker in the past, but I think he is right to take stand here. There are two key issues with some of the posts on this thread. Firstly, Lineker literally saved this club from administration, played for the club and has continued to be an ambassador - so I cannot understand the agenda. Secondly, there are some posts on here with a real discriminatory undertone. I am not going to out people, however, please look at the empirical evidence about this specific topic and try to be more open-minded about it. Edited 10 March 2023 by Matt_Lcfc 18 4

grth2004 Posted 10 March 2023 Posted 10 March 2023 Seems to be a lot of hate on here for Gary , surely saving the club from extinction with some of his own money in the dark days should give him some support - He’s a Leicester legend to me and who cares what he says on twitter. The thing that makes me laugh is the same people moaning about being cancelled and woke ( stupid word) now want cancel someone for having an opinion. The worlds gone mad. 3
