Liverpool's trip to Leicester City on Monday could feature a VAR first as Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) chief Howard Webb will reportedly be a guest in the Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football studio.

The technology has frequently been under the spotlight since its introduction in the English top-flight. This season, in particular, there have been growing calls for the audio between the match referee and the officials at Stockley Park to be aired in a bid for more clarity over contentious decisions.

In a report from The Mirror, it claims that the Premier League will trial letting spectators hear conversations between the referee and VAR officials for the first time since the introduction of the technology with Webb joining pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville from 6:30pm, an hour-and-a-half before kick-off at the King Power Stadium.

 

The former referee will talk through some footage of a number of high-profile calls throughout the season, with the conversations between referees and VAR officials heard.

This means there may be clarity over the decisions surrounding the Reds. Including incidents involving Diogo Jota or Oliver Skipp during the thriller at Anfield last month. The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was involved in a late lunge on Luis Diaz connecting with the Colombian's ankle but escaped punishment.

Match-winner, Jota, was cautioned later in the game for a high boot on Skipp before going on and snatching the points late on. Spurs caretaker boss Ryan Mason was left incensed by the decision.

Currently, FIFA rules block fans from being able to hear these conversations live, but audio could be available after the full-time whistle.

However, it remains unclear whether audio from the Reds' showdown with the relegation-threatened Foxes will be available at full-time, although it is hinted that it could be the case, should it be needed throughout the 90 minutes.
